The Giant Panda Forest at River Wonders is a large enclosure covering an area of 1,500 m2. It is designed to stimulate the giant panda’s natural habitat in China with lush plantings, boulders and water features, and it is temperature and humidity-controlled to ensure the pandas’ comfort

This enclosure is the largest panda exhibit built in Southeast Asia as part of the giant panda conservation program, which helps raise awareness about the importance of protecting these endangered animals and also contribute to the global giant panda breeding program.

Did you know?


  • The Giant Panda Forest is designed to stimulate the natural habitat of the pandas in the bamboo forests of China. It is temperature and humidity controlled to ensure the comfort of the pandas.
  • The Giant Panda Forest at River Wonders is the first panda enclosure in the world to be awarded the LEED Gold certification by the US Green Building Council. This means that the enclosure is designed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable.
  • The forest features a special bamboo breeding program, wherein the bamboo grown in the enclosure is used to feed the pandas and make toys for them.
  • The forest is also home to a variety of other species including the red pandas, snow leopard, and golden takins; all native to the same region in China.

Le Le

Panda Cub at River Wonders

Singapore’s first giant panda cub Le Le was born on August 14, 2021. Born to parents Jia Jia and Kai Kai who arrived in the Singapore zoo in 2012, Le Le is Singapore’s first locally born giant panda. Le Le is a healthy, curious and energetic cub who loves to climb, explore and play with his mother. He is a voracious eater who can consume up to 12 kg of bamboo shoots per day.

🐼 He has over 200,000 followers on social media.
🐼He is the first giant panda to be born in the tropics.
🐼He is expected to be weaned from his mother by the end of 2023.

Jia Jia and Kai Kai

Jia Jia and Kai Kai are the beloved giant panda couple at River Wonders, Singapore who arrived in 2012, on a 10-year panda-loan from China. They are both very popular with visitors at River Wonders and are often seen playing, cuddling or eating bamboo together.

Jia Jia was born in 2007 and she is known for her playful and gentle nature while Kai Kai, born in 2008, is known for being more (than Jia Jia) active and curious in nature. This sweet couple gave birth to their first son, Le Le on August 14, 2021.

🐼 The names Jia Jia and Kai Kai were selected from 1000 entries as part of a nationwide naming contest.
🐼 Jia Jia’s name means “beautiful” in Chinese.
🐼 Kai Kai’s name means “victorious” in Chinese.
🐼 He is expected to be weaned from his mother by the end of 2023. River wonders is one of only a few zoos in the world that is home to giant pandas.
🐼 Singapore is the ninth country to receive panda loans from China.

Routine Care & Checks


A team of experienced keepers and veterinarians keep a daily check on the giant panda family at River Wonders. This includes monitoring their health, feeding them a balanced diet and providing them with a stimulating environment.

Panda Routine Care & Checks Include:

  • Health Checks: They are weighed and visually inspected daily for any signs of injury/illness.
  • Feeding: They are fed a diet of bamboo, bamboo shoots, fruits, and vegetables. They also receive a daily dose of vitamins and minerals.
  • Enclosure Cleaning: The enclosure is cleaned daily to keep them healthy and comfortable.
  • Environmental Enrichment: They are provided with a selection of toys and activities to keep them physically and mentally stimulated. This includes climbing structures, puzzles, and bamboo balls.
  • Veterinary Examinations: This includes blood tests, urine sample collection, ultrasounds, and X-rays.
