In the days of instant gratification, we tend to forget that Broadway is more than a stage meant to provide entertainment. It is, first and foremost, an American cultural space that celebrates talent, enthusiasm, and expression. Heidi Schreck’s What the Constitution Means to Me takes the audience back to the basics of Broadway. The writer and performer Heidi Schreck looks back at her days as a teenager in the play. This was the time when she explored the founding document of America and learned how it impacted the generations of women to be born in the country afterward. Through the series of reenacted speeches, we get to see a very personal, yet inclusive evaluation of the constitution. Heidi Schreck’s What the Constitution Means to Me closed at the Hayes Theatre on August 24, 2019, post which it will be showcased in Washington D.C. followed by a national tour.
