Museum of the Future - Design & Architecture
The Museum of the Future in Dubai is definitely shaping up to be one of the world’s most complex structures. Designed by local architecture firm, Killa Design, who won the competition in 2015, it has been created using high-tech machinery such as a computer-controlled tool to cut nearly 1000 moulds to support the outer structure.
The inspiration for the torus form is inspired by “Feng Shui,” where the building’s shape represents the earth and the sky and the empty space in the middle represents the unknown. Arabic calligraphy runs through the outer facade of the building and the smooth exteriors are a borrowed technique from the aviation industry, covered in 890 joint-free stainless steel and fiberglass panels. In fact, the calligraphy inscribed onto the exterior features quotes from the Prime Minister of Dubai, Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum about the future of the country. The only horizontal surfaces in the building are the floors.
The building is said to have six levels and a museum which will be connected by an elevated walkway to the Metro station, as well as a bridge linking to the Emirates Towers.
