Singapore Flyer: Architecture and Design

singapore flyer

The Singapore Flyer took 2.5 years to construct the giant observation wheel. The Flyer threw open its doors to the public in 2008. Designed by world-renowned architect Dr. Kisho Kurokawa of Japan, global architectural landmarks inspired the flyer's design. In collaboration with the Singapore based architectural firm DP Architects, the experimental yet innovative design for the Singapore Flyer.

The flyer is 165 meter-tall, equal to 31 male giraffes stacked on top of one another or a 42 storey building. With its diameter of 150 meters, it is almost the length of 87 men lying down head-to-toe! The wheel has 28 air-conditioned glass capsules, each shielded by UV protection. Each can accommodate 28 passengers.

The Singapore Sentosa Flyer's design is avant-garde. Its slim ladder truss rim makes it different from other observation wheels that use triangular rims. With its precise engineering and design, you won't feel any vibrations or shakes, even when the wind speed is high. As it rotates smoothly, all you have to do is sit back and relax in this engineering marvel and enjoy the views!
