After a super successful run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Laura Wade's smash hit play The Watsons is transferring to West End's Harold Pinter Theatre. The play ingeniously concludes Jane Austen's unfinished novel of the same name, making it imperative viewing for fans of the legendary author. The Watsons received unanimous critical acclaim for Wade's writing and her ability to capture Austen's trademark wit with her words. The play will open for a limited engagement from 8th May 2020 with a closing date set for 26th September 2020. If you enjoy classics with a fresh twist, The Watsons is the perfect show for you.

About the Show

The Watsons first debuted at the Chichester Festival Theatre before transferring to the Menier Chocolate Factory in Autumn 2019. The show enjoyed sold-out performances night after night. The Watsons received glowing reviews from professional critics and audiences alike, making the transfer to the much bigger Harold Pinter Theatre an anticipated event. The witty and humorous play is written by Laura Wade and adapted from Jane Austen’s unfinished novel. Wade has written plays including ‘Home, I'm Darling’, ‘Posh’, and more. ‘Home, I'm Darling’ won the 2019 Olivier Award for Best Comedy, making Wade an overnight success and one of West End's finest playwrights. The Watsons is directed by Samuel West with Ben Stones handling design and Gregory Clarke working on sound design. The show features a talented ensemble including Grace Molony, Sam Alexander, Jane Booker and Louise Ford.

The Story

The Watsons is based on writer Jane Austen’s unfinished novel of the same name. Since Austen never got the chance to finish the plot, playwright Laura Wade picks up exactly where Austen left off. The story revolves around 19-year-old Emma Watson. Emma is new in town and looking for a rich husband and a good marriage. Faced with a life of poverty if she and her sisters don’t marry, Emma must act fast and find herself a suitable, rich husband. Will she pick the castle-owning Lord Osborne or the smooth-talking Tom Musgrave? Watch the play at Harold Pinter Theatre to find out!
