How to Use the Eurail Global Pass


Activating your Eurail Pass

Buy your Eurail Pass online or through authorized dealers before leaving for Europe. To activate your pass head to any European Train station where a railway official will fill in the start and end dates.

Online Activation: You can activate your pass using the Eurail app too. The steps are simple and you'll only need your passport to activate and booking ID. The validity of the pass depends on the type you've bought so make sure you activate it before the time period ends. While using the Eurail Pass, it's important to understand what a 'Travel Day' is. A 'Travel Day' is essentially a 24-hour period (from midnight to midnight) in which you can take unlimited train journeys using your Eurail Pass. Depending on your pass type (flexi or continuous), you'll have a certain number of travel days within a longer period (e.g., 10 travel days within 2 months).

Reserving Train Tickets

Not all trains need reservations. High-speed, international, and night trains usually do. The reservation costs vary and are additional to the pass. Reserve as early as possible, up to three months in advance for popular routes.

  • This pass is only for non European citizens. You can opt for the Interrail Pass if you are a European resident.
  • The pass doesn’t confirm a reserved seat. If you are traveling overnight you can book your seats at an additional cost.
  • 1st class pass is valid for both 1st and 2nd class while 2nd class pass is only valid for the 2nd class.
  • The pass needs to be activated within 11 months of purchase.
