Who is Banksy?

Although no one really knows who Banksy is, everyone knows of him. With over 10 million followers on Instagram, Banksy is the most famous street artist of our time. All we know is that he was born and raised in Bristol and it was only during the mid 90s where his work started gaining recognition. Infusing dark humor and satire, Banksy’s work is either made with stencils or graffiti, highlighting important social issues. His work is often anti-authoritarian, criticizing the injustice taking place all around the world. One of his earliest work called The Mild Mild West, shows a teddy bear throwing a cocktail at three riot policemen. He painted this large mural over an advertisement for a former solicitor on Stokes Croft in Bristol.

Banksy is also known for his documentary Exit Through The Gift Shop (2010), which debuted at the Sun Dance Film Festival and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
