It was an incredible tour. Getting up early was totally worth it. Simply a dream. Our tour guide, Loretta, was also just fantastic. St. Peter’s Square was almost completely empty. Without this tour, we would have seen only half of the sights—or not noticed them at all. It’s the only thing I’d recommend. You really need to be in decent shape if you want to climb to the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica. And you can’t be afraid of heights. The tour lasts 6 hours, which is exhausting. But definitely worth it.

Our guide Sandra was great. We missed a tour years ago because meeting point was confusing but she made absolutely every effort to find and include some that had problems with meeting spot. She was knowledgeable and easy to understand.

Nadia, our tour guide was very courteous, knowledgeable, and fun. We enjoyed the tour very much, however, the tour was very long (6 hours) and the meeting location showed either of two places to meet, and is easily confusing. The tour guy representative at the main office was very helpful and made sure we made it to the right meeting location in time. If you take the duomo tour, make sure you are ok with lots of stairs and some narrow corridors. Ciao

It’s definitely worth visiting the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, especially early in the morning. It’s also nice to have a short coffee break at that time. Including all the other sights in one tour is a good idea, as otherwise the wait times would be even longer. That’s also my main criticism. Despite the early hour (7:15 a.m.), we waited in line for 45 minutes to get into St. Peter’s Basilica. Also, the group—which started out with 30 people—was too large until it was split up after the dome tour. After that, there were still about 20 of us for the rest of the tour. Since it was so incredibly crowded that day, the visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel was just a mass processing experience. You couldn’t stop in front of individual exhibits because it would have caused a traffic jam. The attendants kept pushing us forward. As a result, our guide could only provide very superficial commentary on some of the items on site. And even that was barely audible because the crowds made it so loud. A good tour, however, thrives on the ability to ask questions or on the small anecdotes and unique details a guide shares. It’s a real shame, because at over €300 for two people, this mass event wasn’t worth it.

The only way to visit the Museum, Chapel and Basilica! Being able to bypassing the long lines to just enter the Museum, Chapel or the Basilica is one of the benifits of the tour. The other major benefit is the guide pointing out the art which one would otherwise miss, even by the most educated eye. The only negative was the service at the breakfast, very slow and no offer of the second cup of coffee. Thank you!
