About the Show
Duration: 2 Hours & 10 Minutes
Based on one of Pushkin's greatest verse novels, Eugene Onegin is presented in the form of an opera with flawless skill by John Cranko. Tchaikovsky composed this piece to be performed with utmost sincerity and simplicity and was doubtful of a positive reception from the audience since the structure lacked traditional transitions. It was first performed at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1881 with conductor Eduard Nápravník. It is now presented in 4 acts and with 1 intermission.

Plot Synopsis
Set in St. Petersburg in the 1820s, this is the story of unrequited love. When young Tatyana sees Eugene Onegin for the first time, she falls in love with him immediately and passionately. However, when she confesses her love for him in a letter, he rejects her, saying that he is not a man who loves easily and is hence unsuited to marriage. Tatyana is crushed but accepts it.
Years later, she blossoms into a grand aristocratic beauty, married to a prince. She meets Onegin again, who cannot believe the change in her and comes to realize that this time, he has fallen in love with her. But since Tatyana is now married, she bids him farewell forever, choosing to be loyal to her husband despite her true feelings for Onegin.
