First performed in 1986, the Phantom of the Opera is one of the most popular and longest-running shows in the world. After its initial performance, it went on to win the 1986 Olivier award and the 1988 Tony award. With a score written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Charles Hart, the musical is a theatre phenomenon that continues to entertain people even today. Beneath the grand Paris Opera House lurks a shadowy figure—the Phantom—haunting its halls and secretly mentoring the young soprano Christine Daaé. As Christine’s voice soars, so does the Phantom’s obsession, drawing her into a mesmerizing yet dangerous world. Torn between her masked maestro and her devoted childhood love, Raoul, Christine’s fate unravels amidst a backdrop of chandeliers, opera, and breathtaking theatrical illusions. Will this mysterious “ghost” seduce Christine, or will she choose to be with Raoul? I took my mum as we have both watched the movie several times. It was brilliant and I can't fault the actors at all. The humour with the play definitely uplifted the whole atmosphere of the play. We sat at the back of the royal circle & it was difficult to see certain parts of the play but I know for next time to try and get a front seat. It was very emotional and I cried at the end. You could definitely feel how phantom felt having his heart broken by a woman he loved. Would recommend to anyone (who have watched the film at least). 5 STARS 🌟Allison
