You really have to see Pompeii if you are in the area; its scale is incomprehensible. In my fantasy, I had expected more of those petrified people, but the times they were on display, it was very impressive. The only thing I found very disappointing is that we only found out once we were in the park that the villa costs extra to visit.

We arrived in Pompeii expecting to find the usual ruins of many archaeological sites, meaning building remnants that are almost all less than a meter high and certainly not containing rooms you can actually enter. Pompeii is truly unique and, for particularly creative minds, it catapults you right into that ancient world. Truly amazing!

It was beautiful! Bernadete "Berny" our guide was a delight! She made the tour fun and kept it light giving us all the information about Pompeii without pumping us full of useless info that wouldn't stick... I visited the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, and I have to say it was an indescribable experience. I didn’t expect such a vast and well-preserved city; it really feels like stepping back in time 2,000 years. Walking through the original streets, entering the houses, the baths, and the Forum is something that leaves you speechless. You can sense the daily life of the Romans in every detail, from the frescoes and mosaics to the inscriptions on the walls. The site is enormous, so I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and setting aside at least 4–5 hours. I found everything very well organized, with clear maps and extremely kind and helpful staff. The most moving moment was seeing the casts of the victims and the Amphitheater. It’s an experience I recommend to everyone—Italians and foreigners alike—at least once in a lifetime. A heritage site unlike any other in the world. I’ll definitely be back to see the newly reopened domus!

What to bring

What's not allowed

Strict dress code: No discourteous clothing or shirtless attire is allowed inside Pompeii Archaeological Park.

Big dogs (above the weight 10kg and the height of 40cm) are not allowed into the venue. Guide dogs with the proper certification are welcome.

Accessibility

Pompeii has uneven ground and limited wheelchair access. Use the south-side entrances instead of the main one.

Choose safety and comfort: This experience is not the best fit for people with impaired mobility and cardiac issues.

Tickets to the ruins are free of charge for disabled people and a companion, to be purchased directly on-site.

The fee for the excavation sites of Pompeii is free for all first Sundays of the month.
