In 1898, upon the advice of W.B.Yeats, John Millington Synge went to live among the islanders of the desolate Irish West Coast. Here he found the inspiration to not only express a life that has never found expression but also for many of his later works. The Irish Repertory Theatre’s production of The Aran Islands is a compelling adaptation of Synge’s tale of his time on the bleakly primitive, mystical island. With Irish actor Brendan Conroy tackling the role of Synge, this production is a truly haunting and transporting experience built around an incredible performance, a stunning set and a breathtaking score.
