Incredible queues of more than an hour despite having tickets. It's good for the flexibility, but it's inhuman to stand for an hour or more in the sun at 38 degrees. Better to book tickets for an hour

There was no skip the line. The line was horrendously long in the morning to anyone that plans to visit. I suggest they go in the afternoon.

We were able to pick up our tickets online in 5 to 10 minutes on headout, even though there were no more tickets on sale on site, and were able to visit this historic and emblematic Lisbon landmark on the banks of the Tagus, where our daughter was able to put her feet in the water while waiting in line in the heat. Access footbridge over the Tagus with lovely photos of the tower, then a visit to the basement with cannons and a view of the dungeon in the ground, then onto the terrace and onto the different floors of the tower (unfurnished), beautiful views of the Tagus and the 24th of July bridge with the statue of Christ in the distance for good memories.

The ticketing experience was fine. I expected a text but instead had an email which I eventually found in my junk folder. The tower was lovely but it would have been good to know that even with a ticket the average wait time is over an hour in August.

These tickets are valid until 31 Dec, 2024.

Why Visit the Belém Tower?

This incredible 6 story tower is an architectural work of art. Its intricate design makes for a stunning photo op but beyond its beauty lies a long history of power and protection. Explore its many levels and learn about its past as part of Portugal’s rich cultural heritage.

Learn about the Belém Tower

Your English and Spanish-speaking guide will walk you through the history of the monument for over 1.5 hours. The tower has 5 levels connected by a spiral staircase. These stairs are so narrow that they’ve installed a traffic signal set up to go up and down the stairs! Visit the octagonal Governor's Chamber and then make your way to the King’s room which overlooks the southern side of the tower. Another interesting element in this room is the eight holes in the floor called 'machicolations', through which the garrison could shoot or drop projectiles to fend off attacks.

Capture Panoramic Views

Get stunning views of the Tagus Estuary and riverbanks from the terrace. Looking northward, catch sight of the secluded Chapel of St. Jerome among the trees on Avenida da Liberdade.
