Catacombs of Agnes

This was my absolute favourite place when visiting Rome! The history, the mindblowing facts and the incredible artwork made from the friars of Rome truly blew my mind. I had goosebumps the whole time. Would 100% recommend!

Getting there was easy using public transportation; since we had purchased our tickets in advance, entry was quick—we didn’t have to wait—and we were promptly provided with the equipment needed to begin the guided tour. The tour is easy and very educational; in particular, it’s clear that they’ve taken children into account, as there are specific points of interest designed just for them. Access to the crypt itself is easy. The decorations made from human bones reflect the respect they had for their brothers; since they removed their skeletal remains to make room for burying other Capuchins, they gave those remains a final resting place that was also very carefully tended in every respect—even striving to make them part of the art— and I believe it’s part of a commemoration, a recognition, and a respect for what their lives were like, as they remain within the crypt itself. An excellent tour, recommended for those who aren’t easily disturbed; it’s easily accessible and straightforward to navigate, and it helps you understand a little more about who the Capuchins were and what they did.

We hadn't even been waiting in line for the crypt for five minutes when we were already able to go right in with our ticket. We were immediately handed a headset, given a brief explanation, and we were ready to go. Buying the tickets was also very easy and straightforward, and it was great that they're valid for so long.

A fascinating and unsettling place, the Capuchin Crypt in Rome is striking for its macabre aesthetic and unique history—a visit you won’t soon forget.
