Gipsy Kings by Andre Reyes

Although the Gypsy Kings are a band of incredible performers from Arles and Montpellier in France, they are descendants of the Spanish gypsies who fled to other parts of Europe during the Spanish Civil War. Their varied experiences and heritage bloomed into a style of music that is loved by people across the globe today.

They won much of the fame they enjoy today after the release of their self-titled third album. Their music quickly spread to the Middle East, Africa, and the far corners of Europe. In the United States, their songs remained on the top charts for over 40 weeks. With a combination of quick strumming flamenco, salsa, and modern pop, the band is set to deliver another top-notch performance at the Dubai Opera.

Having spent 25 years in a world of pop music, the story of the Gypsy Kings goes far back in time. Theirs is a music that spreads forth across generations to the sounds of their ancestors, reflecting the eclectic and peripatetic history of the Spanish and Romani people who fled from the Catalonia region during the Spanish Civil War. From the beginning until the very now, their music has crossed all borders, picking up diverse influences of the gypsy heritage through constant travel. Drawing heavily from Catalan rumba culture, modern pop, and various other styles of music, the Gypsy Kings perform some of their most successful hits such as Djobi Djoba, Baila Me, and Montana. Romantic themes are also explored consistently with songs like Un Armor. The performance features distinguished guests Mario Reyes and Chico Castillo, and is led by the founder of the Gypsy Kings Andre Reyes himself.
