Tootsie Tickets

Duration

2 hr 35 min

Witness one of the most renowned comedies of the 1980s come to life on the Broadway stage, as Michael Dorsey transforms into his female alter ego, Dorothy Michaels. Revel in a show that is a spectacular confluence of vibrant comedy and funky music, that is guaranteed to leave you guffawing in your seat!

  • The 1982 film of the same name serves as the inspiration for the musical comedy. David Yazbek, a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award-winner is the mastermind behind the music and lyrics of Tootsie. The sound is on par with a movie score, and have been critically acclaimed by numerous reviewers. Santino Fontana, playing the role of Michael Dorsey, is undoubtedly the star of the show, and his incredible voice forms of the crux of this satirical comedy. His falsetto is remarkably stable, and the entire musical is ridiculous, constantly poking fun at itself. Scott Ellis, the director, executes the story with an incredible comic panache that makes the characters all the more endearing. Costume designer William Long ensures that the female persona, Dorothy Michaels looks close enough to the original Dorothy, which is sure to keep longtime fans happy. Writer Robert Horn and director Scott Ellis have figured out exactly how to keep the 1982 film relevant in 2019, ensuring that it has its own unique personality, something that is often lacking with other film-to-stage adaptations. They are able to immediately impress the audience from the opening sequence, ensuring that the viewers are left rooted to their seats.

    The Story

The story centers around Michael Dorsey, an upcoming artist who is unable to find work. Although talented, Michael’s volatile nature makes it quite difficult for him to land a long-term contract. His reputation of being a perfectionist causes Michael to be difficult to work with, and as a result, is left jobless for several months. One day, Michael hears about an opening from his ex-girlfriend Sandy. Michael Dorsey transforms into Dorothy Michaels, with the hope of landing the job. To his surprise, he is selected for the job. Can Michael keep up the facade and transform into a successful artist on the stage? Follow the humorous escapades of Michael as he tries to keep up appearances!

Things worked fairly well; however, I didn't know to check email for the exact pick-up location (my fault), so I walked a couple extra blocks looking for the right Headout rep. Also, I was told I was getting center orchestra, and we ended up with left orchestra. Again, not a huge deal, as the seats were good; however, we would have preferred center orchestra.

Would have been a 10 but this time I did not receive information on where to meet the guy. Also the 1st time I used you I was able to see the seating and pick my seat. This time I couldn't access the seating for Tootsie.
