Visiting Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica was a highlight of our trip, made even better by our incredible tour guide. For the entire four-hour duration, our guide was the perfect blend of professional, funny, and entertaining. They kept us engaged the whole time, sharing fascinating stories and historical context that really brought the art and architecture to life. There is simply so much to see and take in that four hours only scratches the surface. I already know I will need to go back to fully appreciate everything this magnificent place has to offer. If you are looking for a tour that is as educational as it is enjoyable, I cannot recommend this experience enough!

A Masterclass in Roman History Our tour of the Vatican and Sistine Chapel was nothing short of transformative, thanks to our incredible guide, Amy. Her deep knowledge of Renaissance art and papal history turned what could have been an overwhelming crowd into an intimate, storytelling experience. Amy has a rare gift for pointing out the hidden details—the subtle expressions in Michelangelo’s frescoes and the political intrigue behind the architecture—that most visitors miss. She navigated the galleries with ease, ensuring we felt relaxed and engaged. If you want more than just a walk-through, book with Amy. She truly brings the Vatican’s masterpieces to life!

I think, even though everything is grand and wonderful, that St. Peter's Basilica wins my favor. It is a place extremely rich in paintings and sculptures, steeped in history and spirituality. I loved the entire visit. Our guide was really great and knew the place and its history perfectly. However, it is EXTREMELY crowded, which sometimes makes the visit difficult and uncomfortable, but the place and its beauty make up for it. It is impossible to see everything, even if you take your time, because there is so much to see.

Our guide Yvonne was so knowledgeable, friendly and added a bit of humor too! The pace was good though you want to wear comfortable shoes as you are on hard surfaces all day. It can be a bit overwhelming with all you see in the museum and St. Peter's basilica. There are rest rooms but no good or drink so eat a good breakfast or lunch before you go. We were pretty exhausted after 3 hours so didn't spend much time in St Peter's and didn't make it down to the tombs which I would have like to see. All in all a great tour with a ton of information.

I had an absolutely fantastic guided tour of the Vatican Museums. My guide was incredible — if there were more than 5 stars, she would deserve 100! Her passion, knowledge, and storytelling made the entire experience unforgettable. It was almost a shame when the tour came to an end because I was enjoying every moment. If you truly want to admire the beauty of Rome and fall even more in love with this amazing city and its history, this tour is an absolute must. I can’t wait to come back and book another tour with them. Highly recommended!

Even though we were running a little late, the agency managed to find our group and it was a real pleasure to take part in this guided tour! Our Italian guide was perfectly bilingual and taught us a lot, telling us lots of anecdotes. The tour lasted three hours, but the Vatican Museum was so beautiful that we would have liked to spend even more time there! I will definitely use Headout again on future trips. You gain so much from listening to someone tell you about the place.

Our guide Massimo was fantastic — great humour, incredible knowledge, and a calm, engaging way of bringing everything to life. The whole experience was breathtaking. We met at a small office just beside the Vatican Museum entrance where our group had a quick briefing before heading straight in. After picking up Bluetooth earpieces so we could clearly hear Massimo throughout, the tour began. The Vatican Museums are simply incredible. It’s very much a whistle-stop tour — you could spend years exploring the full collection — but Massimo did an amazing job highlighting the most important pieces and telling the stories behind them. After around 90 minutes we reached the Sistine Chapel. It’s undeniably beautiful and powerful to see in person, though it was very busy when we visited. Despite the rules about silence and no phones, the room was packed, so for us it felt more like a “bucket-list moment” than a deeply spiritual one. From there we passed directly through to St Peter’s Basilica, swapping headsets on the way. All I can say about the basilica is wow. The sheer scale is overwhelming and every inch is stunning. Massimo’s explanations of the art and the history of the Church really brought the space alive. As an unexpected bonus, we even bumped into the President of Austria during the visit! Afterwards we queued about 30 minutes for the lift to the roof — partly because the President had a private 15-minute slot on top of the dome. Before climbing further we were able to use the toilets on the roof level (and there’s even a smoking area). Then came the climb to the top of the dome. The final ascent is strenuous but manageable, around 400 steps in total. The last section is especially memorable because you’re climbing inside the dome itself, so the staircase leans with the curve of the structure. It’s a unique experience — and absolutely worth it for the 360-degree views across Rome and Vatican City. After enjoying the view we walked back down the stairs (skipping the lift queue) and spent another hour exploring St Peter’s Basilica on our own. It was much quieter by then, which gave us time to really take it all in. Overall, this tour was outstanding. Massimo alone made it worth the price. You get to see every area of Vatican City open to the public, and if you love art and history like we do, it will definitely leave you wanting to come back and explore the museums in even more depth

First of all, I’d like to start on a positive note: our guide, Katia, for the tour of the Vatican Museums was truly wonderful. She was both friendly and, above all, very knowledgeable, managing to present the information in an accessible way while striking a balance between a smooth flow and sufficient detail. However, several aspects were very disappointing, starting with the lack of integrity regarding the service we paid for. I thought I was booking a guided tour of the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. In reality, we only got a guided tour of the Vatican Museums (part of them, to be precise), which went very well, by the way. However, we weren’t accompanied inside the Sistine Chapel (luckily, we had some information beforehand). And St. Peter’s Basilica wasn’t included in the guided tour at all: that’s where the description is misleading, because it gives the impression that it’s included, when in fact we only had a ticket for a fast-track line but without a guide (for your information, St. Peter’s Basilica is free to visit otherwise; the line is just longer). The worst part of all this is that we weren’t given any information about this entrance to St. Peter’s Basilica. So we started queuing “like everyone else” (those visiting for free), before realizing there was a second line for those with an online reservation. Finally, the agency’s organization was pretty mediocre: we were told to arrive well in advance, only to end up leaving later than the time scheduled by the agency. Then we had to get to the Vatican entrance, go through security, etc. Our slot was scheduled for 10 a.m., but we actually started the tour at 11:15 a.m.—and that was in March; I can’t even imagine what it’s like in the summer. In summary: very happy with our guide, who was great, but quite disappointed with the overall organization and especially the lack of clarity and honesty regarding the service we purchased.

This was my first guided tour experience and generally the arrangements were good and the tour guide was a great knowledgable guy. I had prepared well for my visit and knew the layout and treasures contained within the Vatican and wanted to learn more. However, I was dismayed to find that the tour was relatively short inside the building (took us a while to get organised) and took in none of the paintings and rooms that I had expected to see. It felt that the main aim of the visit was to get inside the Sistine chapel by the quickest route. That said, it was extremely busy with tourists (and other large groups) and it made stopping and looking almost impossible. However, the information we received about the Sistine chapel by was very good and supported our visit there. This review is based on personal preference and I recognise that the tour guides are limited in terms of time. Next time I will go without the guide - no offence intended.

We loved the tour, especially with the guide who showed us everything so wonderfully. This guide works for the Vatican; she is of Colombian origin and her name is Sanabria León. A wonderful person and a true professional. We had a completely different experience with your company on March 17, when we booked the tour of the Colosseum, the Forum, and the Palatine Hill through you. The tour was supposed to last three hours, but the guide wrapped it up in two. Whenever she was asked questions she found inconvenient, she tried to avoid them, so the information provided was quite sparse. This guide, who is of Cuban origin—I don’t know her name—made the tour feel rushed, which was the most memorable part of the experience. In short, we would rate this tour a barely passing one star, and much of that was due to the guide you assigned us, who, it seems, was filling in for a guide who had fallen ill. Thank you and best regards.
