Pro tips to help you make a pick

Visit during off-peak hours: To experience a less crowded environment and potentially shorter waiting times, plan your visit during off-peak hours. Early mornings or late afternoons on weekdays are generally quieter than weekends and midday periods.

Check weather conditions: Check the weather forecast before your visit to ensure clear skies and clear visibility from the observation deck.

Book a restaurant table in advance: Make sure to book your table at the Sphere Restaurant in advance, for it attracts a large number of visitors throughout the year. The restaurant revolves every 30 minutes, where you can enjoy fine dining with 360-degree views.

Try the virtual tour: When visiting the Berlin TV Tower, make sure to try the Berlin Odyssey, a virtual tour, detailing the journey of how the city evolved from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Visit nearby attractions: The Berlin Cathedral, the Brandenburg Gate, and the DDR Museum are some popular attractions located near the TV Tower. You can plan a day trip and cover all these attractions. Alexanderplatz is also a vibrant area, with lots of shops and bustling restaurants.

About Berlin TV Tower

The Berlin TV Tower is a prominent icon in the city’s skyline and offers breathtaking views from its observation deck. The tower also offers a revolving Sphere Restaurant, which turns every 30 minutes, making for a unique dining experience. The symbolic nature of the TV Tower extends beyond its architecture and embodies Berlin’s resilience and ability to transform from a divided city into a vibrant, united metropolis.

Did you know?

Secret bugging device: During the Cold War, the West German intelligence agency discovered that the German Democratic Republic had hidden a listening device in the Tower's sphere. This allowed them to eavesdrop on conversations in nearby government buildings and even the US Embassy. The device was operational for several years until its discovery in the 1990s.

Easter egg lighting: The TV Tower has a quirky tradition during Easter. Every year, the tower's sphere is transformed into a giant Easter egg with special lighting arrangements. This festive touch adds a playful and unexpected element to the iconic structure, delighting locals and tourists.

Original design modification: The original design of the TV Tower included a cross at the top. However, the communist government decided to remove the cross during construction, as it was considered a religious symbol. The decision sparked controversy and was seen as a political statement in the officially atheist German Democratic Republic.

Giant World Cup Ball: In 2006, during the FIFA World Cup hosted by Germany, the TV Tower was transformed into a giant football. This creative illumination was part of the city's celebrations, showcasing the tower's adaptability for special events and its role as a symbol of unity and festivity.

Weather-dependent shadow: On clear days, the tower casts a distinct shadow on the cityscape, creating a captivating visual effect. The length and clarity of this shadow vary based on the time of day and atmospheric conditions, adding an element of unpredictability to the tower's presence in Berlin's skyline.

This place was really fun. It was interactive with various art installations, some games and plenty of opportunities to take pictures & create memories. It is a nice place to visit solo or with others and is suitable for children. There is also a locker room which is convenient. The option to use a smart phone to access information about each piece worked well for us and made this enjoyable experience educational too. Thank you to the artists and Illuseum for raising awareness about sustainability and issues arising due to over consumption, plastic and pollution. Good place to visit and I would recommend it.

I was able to capture wonderful moments with my little family. It wasn't just fun, we also learned a lot. The photos turned out beautifully and I can't name any negative points against the museum, only the other visitors don't really show consideration when taking photos

A wonderful experience, even if the QR code doesn't quite work. The view doesn't match the display on the cell phone. However, VR glasses are highly recommended for the tower construction! But only if you don't get sick, which can happen.

The uncomplicated handling right up to the entrance to the restaurant. And the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Last year I was rudely reprimanded by a very elderly member of staff. Very courteous staff in the restaurant who take great care of their guests. Thank you for that! I know far different times up there! Food, drinks great, a little spicy, but otherwise good. I would love to come back with my young people to see Berlin at your feet. Please keep up the good work! Kind regards, Karin Selchow.

As a Berlin native, I’ve been on quite a few tours, but this one was definitely the best. The boat was beautiful, the crew was incredibly friendly and kind, and the guide was great. He spoke loudly and clearly, and everyone listened to him with interest. He did a fantastic job of conveying the information to the audience. It was a pleasure to listen to him.
