Yesterday my husband and I took the tour of Pompeii, and it was a fantastic experience. We had originally booked it in English, but they very kindly switched it to Spanish at the last minute, which we really appreciated. Our guide made the tour very engaging, entertaining, and full of interesting information. Despite the intense heat in Pompeii, time flew by, and before we knew it, the two-hour tour was over.

The experience was great. The ticket pickup location wasn't exactly where Google Maps directed us, but there were staff members there asking if we were with HeadOut, and they immediately gave us our printed tickets. After that, we just had to walk right through the entrance, skipping the lines. As for Pompeii, there’s nothing more to say—you have to see it for yourself. It’s incredible that it’s so well-preserved after all these years. We absolutely loved the visit.

This was a amazing tour, I can definitely recommend. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and has worked on digs at Pompeii, so also has first hand experience. Well worth doing a guided tour for a couple of hours to see the main and popular areas and then staying on to explore other areas by yourself. It's so big and needs most of the day (even longer) to explore this amazing site.

A magical tour through time! To witness the innate desire of human being for perfection, and the succeful preservation of it through centuries, was mesmerizing. This visit made me proud of being a human being, a feeling I have had challenged in the past few years-- with all the violence going on in our societies. Thank you Italy for creating this global heritage, and preserving it. We were touched to witness and admired many small groups of field workers excavating more precious heritage under the scorching sun. Amazing. On a practical note, we were disappointed to have paid for audio guide, to be told that it did not work because of poor internet connection! You need to put some order in the chaotic offer of audio guides! Thank you

Our archaeologist guide was so passionate about the site and everything she had to tell us about it. She was witty and funny and we found her very enjoyable. The two hour tour was a little hard on these 69-year-old bodies and the pace seemed to be a little quicker than we were comfortable with. But there were frequent stops and we were savvy enough to have brought enough water with us. Anyone with any type of mobility issue will be hard pressed to enjoy this, especially during the hot summer months.

What to bring

Carry your earphones for an immersive audio guide experience. If you are given a physical audio guide, ensure you arrive prepared with wired earphones (3.5mm jack).

A moderate amount of walking is involved in this activity. Please wear comfortable shoes due to uneven terrain.

What's not allowed

Strict dress code: No discourteous clothing or shirtless attire is allowed inside Pompeii Archaeological Park.

Big dogs (above the weight 10kg and the height of 40cm) are not allowed into the venue. Guide dogs with the proper certification are welcome.

Accessibility

Pompeii has uneven ground and limited wheelchair access. Use the south-side entrances instead of the main one.

Choose safety and comfort: This experience is not the best fit for people with impaired mobility and cardiac issues.

Tickets to the ruins are free of charge for disabled people and a companion, to be purchased directly on-site.

Additional information

Facilities: cloakroom, luggage storage. Head to the Superiore Entrance to make use of the onsite luggage facilities.

The fee for the excavation sites of Pompeii is free for all first Sundays of the month.

Children under 18 enjoy free entry with a valid ID.

If you’re an EU citizen aged 18-24, you can avail the ticket at €2.

The same discount applies if you’re a non-EU citizen with a valid Italian residence permit (for study, work, family reasons, etc., as recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
