I really recommend taking a guide (3 hrs) to visit Pompeii. It saves a huge amount of time, lets you skip the line at the entrance, keeps you from getting lost in all the streets, and takes you straight to the essentials so you can be sure to see the highlights, leaving you free to wander around afterward and continue exploring the city at your own pace. The details and anecdotes shared by the guide are very interesting, and it keeps you from doing the visit with your nose buried in books or paper travel guides.

Paolo (or maybe spelt Paulo) our guide was knowledgeable and genuinely interested in Pompeii, which made it much more enjoyable for us. The audio earpiece made it easy to hear even if we got a little behind or was near the back of the line. He had time for questions and ensured we got the most from our tour, even recommending other parts we should visit that we didn't have the time for in the 2 hours.

A great tour led by Theresa, an Archeologist guide with great language skills, a passion for Pompeii which shone through and the ability to pass that passion on. Pompeii itself is an amazing place, with just a little imagination you can feel how the city was in AD79. However, however much they try to make it accessible, it is quite tough walking due to high steps and uneven 2000 year old streets

Dr. Grazia was wonderful at bringing the history of Pompeii to life. With her, I experienced a typical Pompeian day. In my opinion, visiting such an immense site requires a guide who focuses on the essential things to see and points out details you would otherwise miss. Our guide Antonella is an archaeologist and clearly passionate about Pompeii, sharing insights and information and bringing the whole experience alive. One of the best parts was walking round the raised platform and looking down into homes and businesses. The photo shows a very early 'takeaway' shop which amused us.

In terms of the tour, we had Anton and Anton was fantastic. Anton really knew his history and spoke well, was enthusiastic and answered questions through the tour. Anton spoke with great depth and detail and I would absolutely recommend the tour with Anton. I have given this 4 out if 5 stars, not due to Anton, but due to the tour company and we was lost upon arriving, and the tour started late as Anton waited for everyone to be ready which was great of him to do but I had to communicate via WhatsApp with the tour company and I felt like I was repeating myself. It also changed the night before from 2.30pm-4.30pm to 2pm. Not enough time especially travelling from Rome but I gave us extra time when I booked the train tickets so fortunately because I did this we did not miss the tour. Great tour, just need better organisation prior but Anton gets 5/5 he was fantastic
