Dear Evan Hansen
A rare gem that was birthed from the real experiences of the songwriter Benj Pasek, Dear Evan Hansen is one of the most successful musicals this decade. The six-time Tony Award-winning musical that explores complex teenage hardships is coming to Noel Coward Theatre this October!
Why Watch Dear Evan Hansen
A story of love, loss, and the desire to be accepted, Dear Evan Hansen strikes a special chord with teenage and adult audiences. Perhaps one of its most striking features of the musical is its ability to instantly make viewers connect with the protagonist - a teenager suffering from social anxiety. When it first opened on Broadway in December 2016, it received rave reviews and high praise from the community. Shortly after, at the 71st Tony Awards, it was nominated for nine awards including ‘Best Musical’, ‘Best Score’, and ‘Best Actor in a Musical’, six of which it managed to win! The story and music is the brainchild of Oscar and Golden Globe-winning team of songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, in association with writer Steven Levenson. The West End production will be directed by four-time Tony Award nominee and three-time Obie Award-winning American stage director Michael Greif.
17-year old Evan Hansen is unable to connect with anyone around him, not even his mother Heidi. The teen’s life is painfully colorless apart from his love for Zoe from the wealthy Murphy family. Evan’s therapist recommends that he write letters to himself expressing his deepest fears and insecurities. Although everyone refuses to acknowledge Evan’s existence, he somehow manages to get Zoe’s brother Connor to sign the cast wrapped around his broken arm. In an unfortunate turn of events, Connor commits suicide with one of Evan’s letters in his pocket, thereby trusting Evan into the spotlight. How will Evan respond to this unforeseen series of events? Would it be immoral of him to use the direness of the situation to win Zoe’s heart? Join Evan on his quest to connect with those around him and live the life he always hoped he would.
