I'd like to clarify a few points for you, as I find the explanations on the site unclear: - reserving a time at the dome does not mean being at the entrance at that time. You have to be at the bar at the time you booked (8 a.m., so 7.45 a.m., i.e. 15 minutes in advance). - A vox city employee registers you and sticks a little sticker on your jacket. - The vox city guide accompanies us (and others) through the basilica queue. He explains that he's only there to wait in line, and that he holds our entrance ticket. The QR code is not a ticket. After the 1st queue and the portico, there's a 2nd queue for the entrance to the dome. - The guide asks us if we want to take the stairs (long wait, but included in your ticket, it depends) or if we want to take the steps. If you're in good health, I recommend the steps to save time. It's sporty, but you've got to do it! - A word of advice: book early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds.

The dome was amazing of course. I thought we would "skip the line" but we still had to wait in line at security and wait in line before going up the steps. It was October and there were a lot of people. I was hoping to have a more express entry.

Even though it was a self guided tour our host was attentive to us until we entered the basilica. We were greeted with croissants and coffee, and he answered all our questions about the tour good naturedly!

We had already been to the cathedral before the slot for the ascent with a guided tour (also booked through you) and had subsequently booked the separate booking/slot for the cathedral ascent with you. We were sure that we could use the QR code you gave us to go directly to the entrance for the ascent to the dome. However, we were turned away at the entrance because the ticket was not valid and we had to buy a separate new ticket. In other words, we couldn't use your ticket at all. This cost us an extra EURO 30. It would make more sense if you send the correct QR ticket directly to your cell phone so that you don't have to organize the tickets separately somewhere (outside the cathedral) and then queue again for the entrance. It would also make sense to simply send a link to an audio guide that we can listen to directly from our cell phones. It would also be important to mention that it is very VERY VERY narrow when climbing up to the dome and that if you have difficulty and suffer from claustrophobia, you should not enter the dome. We witnessed a visitor who had a panic attack and had to be evacuated.

Prepare yourself for a journey through the heart of Papal history, Roman architecture, and Christian symbolism at St. Peter's Basilica and its Dome! With a digital audio guide and map included, you’ll go at your own pace and explore the Basilica and the Cupola from the convenience of your phone.

Best of Basilica from the Dome

Your adventure begins with an elevator ride to Cupola's base. The frescos, Corinthian pillars, cornices, and frieze, all set the stage for an extraordinary ascend to the base. The base gives you the best views of the sacred spaces of the Basilica—the 95-ft bronze baldachin covering the Papal Altar or St. Peter’s tomb. Be captivated by the craftsmanship of Ambrogio Buonvicino's bronze statues of the Apostles Peter and Paul, standing as guardians of this sacred space. Don’t miss Bernini's stained-glass window, casting an ethereal glow over the gilded Apse. But the real highlight? Pope Clement VIII's meticulously adorned dome. From the outstretched hand of Christ to the busts of Popes and apostles, every detail narrates Michelangelo's vision and Rome's spiritual and artistic heritage.

Views from Rome’s Highest Peak

Ascend to Cupola's peak, called "La Lanterna," for panoramic views of the Eternal City. From the Vatican Gardens to the Tiber River, view Rome's iconic landmarks from a whole new perspective. Catch a glimpse of the formidable Castel Sant'Angelo, Victor Emmanuel II Monument, and the Pantheon’s dome.

Our audio guide, available in seven languages, will be your trusted companion as you start this artistic and spiritual exploration of St. Peter's Basilica and Dome.
