Getting started

Arrive at the skydiving base near the 12 Apostles at Great Ocean Road Airport and check in with the team. You will be weighed, complete the necessary paperwork, and attend a safety briefing that explains the jump sequence and body position. After this, you will be fitted with safety gear and harnessed to your expert jumpmaster for your tandem skydive.

What to expect

Scenic climb over the Great Ocean Road

Your experience begins with a scenic flight to your selected altitude of 10,000 or 15,000 feet above the coastline. As the aircraft climbs, you can look out over Princetown, Cape Otway, Bay of Martyrs, the Bass Strait, and the winding Great Ocean Road.

• Take in elevated views of limestone stacks, dramatic cliffs, and long stretches of southern coastline as you ascend over the 12 Apostles region.

• Ride in the aircraft up to your chosen jump height of 10,000 or 15,000 feet, securely attached to your tandem setup with safety gear checked by your jumpmaster.

Freefall over the 12 Apostles

Once the door opens at altitude, you and your instructor move to the edge and exit the aircraft together. Depending on your option, you will experience about 40 seconds of freefall from 10,000 feet or about 60 seconds from 15,000 feet as you reach speeds close to 200 km/h.

• Jump in tandem with an expert jumpmaster who controls the exit, body position, and deployment, with all safety gear and harnessing included in your experience.

Parachute descent and coastal landing

At around 5,000 feet, your instructor deploys the parachute and the intense freefall transitions into a quieter glide. You will spend several minutes descending under canopy before touching down close to the shoreline.

• Glide under the open parachute for 5 to 7 minutes, with time to absorb views of the Bass Strait, shoreline, and surrounding coastal landscape from above.

• Land near the coast with your instructor managing the canopy and landing, completing your tandem skydive using the provided safety gear and briefing you received earlier.

Wrapping up

After landing and removing your gear, you can speak with the team about adding photo or video packages at an extra cost, so you can take home a visual record of your skydive over the 12 Apostles.
