Our trip to Quinta da Regaleira was surprising. Everything seemed poised to go wrong, as the weather suddenly changed, the temperature dropped, and the threat of rain became evident. When we arrived, we couldn’t park near the site; the car was more than two kilometers away, so we didn’t get in until 45 minutes after our scheduled time. However, what seemed like chaos turned into a five-star experience. The temperature stayed around 23 degrees; there were two brief showers that actually made the walk to the estate more pleasant. The fact that the car was parked far away allowed us to admire other areas we wouldn’t otherwise have seen. The staff at the farm’s entrance put us at ease, and we were admitted right after our scheduled time, allowing us to enjoy our visit as planned. The views are spectacular, the details superb. There are tunnels, mazes, and incredible views that transport us to another time—in short, a dream! For visitors, it’s important to wear very comfortable shoes and bring a camera with a fully charged battery, as there are so many details to capture and so many photos to take.

The line was extremely long just to get onto the castle grounds (even with a ticket). There were also several (!) long (!) wait times inside the castle. Because of the wait times, I can’t wholeheartedly recommend the castle. Ultimately, it’s a colorful castle with five pretty rooms. What I can definitely recommend, however, is the park itself. Due to a lack of time, I was probably only able to see about a third of the park. The many paths, buildings, streams, and ponds you can discover there are extraordinary!! If I were to go back there with a group of friends, I’d say: “You guys go check out the castle; I’ll take a look at the park :-)”

We really enjoyed visiting Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra. It is such a beautiful and unique place, with lovely gardens, interesting architecture, winding paths, and hidden tunnels to explore. The Initiation Well was definitely a highlight and something we had never seen before. We enjoyed walking around the property and discovering all the different areas along the way. It has a very peaceful feel in some areas, while others are fun to explore and a little mysterious. We would definitely recommend visiting if you are in Sintra. Give yourself plenty of time to walk around and take it all in—it’s a beautiful place and well worth the visit!

The Quinta da Regaleira has truly fascinating corners, like the famous initiatory well and its network of tunnels, but the overall experience is greatly diminished by the tourist overcrowding. It's almost impossible to enjoy the mysticism or peace of its gardens when you have to wait in monumental lines just to take a picture or walk the paths. Furthermore, the lack of crowd control makes a place that should be magical become a stressful and uncomfortable space to visit.

Absolutely loved my visit to Quinta da Regaleira! Everything was so beautiful and magical, from the incredible architecture to the gardens and the famous Initiation Well. It honestly felt like stepping into a fairytale. The whole experience was easy and smooth from start to finish, and having the tickets through Headout made the entry very convenient. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Portugal and a place I would recommend to anyone visiting Sintra! ❤️

We loved our visit to Quinta da Regaleira. We started our day in Sin at Pena Palace and waked down through the woods past the Moorish Castle to Quinta - like a fairy tale visit. The time in Quinta was wonderful - we wished we had allowed more time that day to wonder the gorunds further. We could have spent an entire day there exploring all the nooks and crannies. We highly recommend venturing off the beaten path to the lesser known areas for some peace and quiet.

The place is charming, with mysterious paths and brimming with symbolism, art, history, architecture, and encounters. Its gardens exude a sense of tranquility. The tour takes about 1 or 2 hours if you’re a detail-oriented explorer (like me, haha)—maybe a little longer. The estate: It’s a must-see.

The Quinta da Regaleira was definitely the highlight. Enjoyed the palace but the park was for us more unusual. Be prepared for a lot of uphill walking between the palace and the park unless you choose to take a taxi/other transportation to the palace.

Sintra is beautiful; when you visit the Palácio da Pena and Quinta Regaleira, you go from a “Disney” atmosphere to a “Game of Thrones” vibe in just a few kilometers. It’s a must-see, but you’ll need a lot of patience for the lines and the huge crowds.
