Queue to get the audio guides (I phones set up in preparation) was short so waited max of 5 mins. Be prepared to hand over your passport or drivers licence as security. So you must ensure you plan to go back to the same office to return phones later and retrieve your item! We had a disabled person with us so security very kindly showed us a quick route into the museum building. It was busy but easily manageable. The map is clear and nformation useful but you cam still enjoy the walk around without it. You have to hold the phone up to listen, or take your own earphones!. Sometimes hard to navigate the screen to find the correct reference point, due to the bright sun.Diego

The city is really amazing, everything is very well described, it is a pity that there are not more toilets and a place where you can have a snack.Michaela

Pompeii was very beautiful, and I'm glad we got to experience it. Still had to wait in a bit of a line, however much shorter than the actual ticket line. It was busy, but there were some points where there was no one else near us. It made for good photo opportunities.Jesper

Go there. Fantastic. Bring water and walk slowly. Consider the official audio guide. Or use AI (like fx ChatGPT) for very precise guidance. Very hot June to August.
Step into a world frozen in time—Pompeii, a city buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD and rediscovered in 1748. Walking through these ancient streets, you’ll be tracing the footsteps of a civilization nearly 2,000 years old, perfectly preserved beneath layers of volcanic ash.
Once you arrive, step through the entrance, and your journey back in time begins. With Mount Vesuvius looming in the background and centuries-old ruins stretching before you, it’s an experience that’s both breathtaking and surreal. Plan to spend about four hours here—there’s so much to take in. Wander through the Forum, admire the Basilica, or take a break in the shade near the amphitheater. Scattered throughout the city, you’ll find colorful frescoes, intricate statues, and remnants of daily life, from public baths and street fountains to bustling marketplaces that once thrived in Pompeii’s heyday.
As you explore the cobbled streets, you’ll start to notice just how much life back then mirrors our own. From wine barrels to household tools, the everyday details bring the past into focus, making it easy to picture the people who once called this place home.
Want to enhance your experience? Opt for Pompeii Plus, which gives you access to the suburban villas and the Antiquarium.
