We had a fantastic guidertour at Pompeii. A special thanks goes to our guide, Mr. Igor, who made the tour both engaging and informative. His knowledge of Pompeii’s history was impressive, and he had a great way of explaining things so that even our son(13yrs) could easily follow and stay interested. He brought the ancient city to life with fascinating stories, details, and insights that we would have completely missed on our own. Mr. Igor was also very friendly, patient, and attentive, making sure everyone in the group was comfortable and involved. The pace of the tour was perfect—not rushed, but still covering all the key highlights. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience for all three of us. I had an amazing experience visiting Pompeii with Headout! The entry process was smooth and hassle-free, which made the start of the trip very enjoyable. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful, and the area was well-organized, but I must point out a few areas where I found the cleaning to be lacking. I didn’t see any cleaning staff walking along the walkways, and in some places I found paper and food scraps inside the column bases and on the floor (people’s lack of civility isn’t improving).

You walk through a village. Unlike other times, you don't just see the ruins from above—you actually step inside the houses and courtyards, see the fountains, mosaics, inscriptions, and frescoes... you even go into the bars! It's cool—I highly recommend it :)

We went to Pompei and had a tour guide named Lucia. It was her first tour on a first day in a new job. Despite few minor dificulties she was holding on like a lionese. Cudos to her. The tour was nice, informative and all together pleasant. Would recomend.

It was quick and easy; it’s also no problem that the ticket office is 15 minutes away from the shuttle buses—it’s right at the entrance, and the exit is by the shuttle buses. So it makes for a nice loop through Pompeii.

We had to walk farther than expected from the train station to the meeting point, and no one had warned us that this would be the case. On top of that, we had to cut the tour short to return the audio guide. I wouldn't book an audio guide again so that I could spend more time there and exit through a different entrance—one closer to the station and less stressful.

I didn't run into any problems there. The young woman exchanged my tickets without any trouble and was very friendly. However, I paid an extra fee for the Villa of the Mysteries, and I found out that my 24-year-old daughter, who is an EU citizen, should have paid 2 euros for Pompeii, but she ended up paying 20 euros. I think that's a real shame.

What to bring

Carry your earphones for an immersive audio guide experience. If you are given a physical audio guide, ensure you arrive prepared with wired earphones (3.5mm jack).

A moderate amount of walking is involved in this activity. Please wear comfortable shoes due to uneven terrain.

Full names are mandatory for Pompeii bookings. Double-check the names at checkout for a hassle-free entry. Be sure to bring a valid Photo ID with you to gain entry.

What's not allowed

Strict dress code: No discourteous clothing or shirtless attire is allowed inside Pompeii Archaeological Park.

Big dogs (above the weight 10kg and the height of 40cm) are not allowed into the venue. Guide dogs with the proper certification are welcome.

Accessibility

Pompeii has uneven ground and limited wheelchair access. Use the south-side entrances instead of the main one.

Choose safety and comfort: This experience is not the best fit for people with impaired mobility and cardiac issues.

Tickets to the ruins are free of charge for disabled people and a companion, to be purchased directly on-site.

Additional information

Whether you will be allotted a digital pr physical audio guide will be communicated at the time of booking. You can decide what kind of earphones to bring accordingly.

If you're handed a physical audio guide, you must leave a personal document like a passport as security at the supplier's office before collecting the guide. After your tour, you must drop off the headsets and your document will be returned to you.

Facilities: cloakroom, luggage storage. Head to the Superiore Entrance to make use of the onsite luggage facilities.

The fee for the excavation sites of Pompeii is free for all first Sundays of the month.

Children under 18 enjoy free entry with a valid ID.

If you’re an EU citizen aged 18-24, you can avail the ticket at €2.

The same discount applies if you’re a non-EU citizen with a valid Italian residence permit (for study, work, family reasons, etc., as recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
