Easy to get our tickets through Headout, fast delivery and good description. Choosing to visit Quinta da Regaleira first and then walk the path to Pena Palace was a good idea, but you need to set aside some time for that hike because there are many meters of elevation difference between the two places. We chose to go into the park at Pena first and walk for a while in it before using our booked time to Pena Palace. Both Regaleira and Pena Palace were definitely worth visiting, very exciting and beautiful architecture and the view from Pena is magnificent. After finishing the visit, we chose to walk back down to Sintra to take the train back to Lisbon. In summary, it was a very successful day but many spectacular views and interesting architecture.

The tickets we had no problem to enter the palace of the penalty then we walked around there were many people and everything went well we went up in uber is the most advisable and the cheapest for those who want to return or go see anything use uber buses are very expensive gasoline here is also very expensive also refuel in Spain before entering Portugal on this occasion there has been no problem with the tickets but in this same application I went to another palace with guide and audio guide and I could not download the radio guide and there was no guide and there was nothing at all I could only enter but yes without problems with the tickets but this time as I had not hired the highway or the tour guide everything went perfect.

Seeing Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle back-to-back honestly felt like walking into two different fantasy novels in the same day. Pena was wild.. so colorful and eclectic that it kind of made no sense, but in the best possible way. It was fun to imagine how royalty actually lived there. Then the Moorish Castle completely flipped the vibe. Old stone walls, wide-open views, and this sense of stepping straight into history, it was just as impressive, but totally different. If you go, definitely wear good shoes (lots of steps and uneven paths), but it’s more than worth it. Easily one of the most fun days we’ve had on this trip.

The Palace itself is beautiful, but there are many drawbacks to the visit we wish we'd known in advance. First, when we went to buy tickets it showed non available at the time we wanted. However, there were plenty of you wanted to spend twice the price, which supposedly meant you'd skip all ticket lines. The busride to the gate, was then three times the price the guidebooks said and took much longer than advertised. Once at the gate, you need to take a shuttle bus to avoid the straight uphill climb to the castle itself. But when we got in line for the shuttle, we were told our skip the line ticket didn't include the shuttle and we'd have to get in the very long ticket line and pay extra to take the shuttle. So we walked, and the supposed ten minute walk took us almost 30 minutes. And it about killed us. The tickets are also timed and when we got to the top there was a sign informing us of you didn't make your time they weren't going to let you in! We were almost half an hour late, so shuffled the rest of the way up, fearing we wouldn't get in. Turns out there's some grace period, but not much! Finally we were in and the crowds were enormous, so it was very slow going. But we ultimately enjoyed it. It's beautiful and unique and the views are tremendous. If you're prepared for the experience better, hopefully you'll enjoy it!

Peña palace was intriguing and beautiful! Not being a fan of crowds, and waking up very early due to jet lag, we bought Skip the Line tickets and arrived before opening. The only headache is that the Headout App would not display our tickets for what felt like ages. This was very exasperating as we had been like 3rd in line before opening and then ended up having to wait just to get the Headout tickets to load. We used the palace WiFi, but it didn't work for a long time. Note to print out or take screen shots of tickets in the future! Nevertheless we still got in early and were able to enjoy the interiors with very light crowds, thanks to it being October and it being early AM. Definitely impressive with wonderful views! Walking down through the park to historic Sintra was also beautiful --and much nicer to go down than to climb up!

Quinta da Regaleira, Sintra – A Place of Mystery and Magic 🌿✨ Visiting Quinta da Regaleira was such a fascinating experience. The highlight for me was the Initiation Well – an incredible architectural wonder that feels both mysterious and enchanting. Walking down its spiralling steps and looking out towards the waterfall view from inside was simply unforgettable. Every corner of the estate is filled with symbolism, hidden tunnels, and intricate stonework – it truly feels like stepping into a fantasy world. What a structure, and what a masterpiece of imagination and design!

The castle and the surrounding area are perfect. Admission control works quickly and smoothly. However, it is very crowded, which means too many tourists, too many people. You are quickly "processed" so that the following tourists can get in. You have the feeling of being part of the mechanism that has to work. Even if, as a tourist, I myself contribute to it being full, the next time I visit I would only buy the ticket for the park, but not for the tour of the palace itself.
  • Feel the magic of Sintra with access to the colorful Pena Palace, its vast parklands, and more—explore at your own pace or upgrade for added comfort and context.

    Getting Started

Head to the main entrance of Pena Park. Depending on your ticket type, show your digital or printed voucher for access. • The Park: Wander through 200 hectares of winding paths, secret gardens, pavilions, and exotic trees from around the world.

    • Chalet of the Countess of Edla: With select tickets, visit this Swiss-style retreat nestled in the park—built by King Ferdinand for his beloved Elise.

    • Audio Guide: Choose an upgraded ticket to uncover royal stories and architectural secrets in English, Spanish, or French.

    • Skip-the-Line Entry: Want to save time? The skip-the-line option helps you avoid crowds at one of Sintra’s most visited spots.

    Wrapping Up

After soaking in the views and stories of Pena Palace, take your time exploring the peaceful park trails on your way back. If you’ve opted for the shuttle, head to the designated stop for a comfortable ride down. Buses and tuk-tuks are available near the exit to take you back into Sintra town.
