Marvel at the Monument's Architecture
As you view the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, also known as the Monument of Discoveries, be amazed by its intricate carvings and facade with a concrete base that rises high into the sky! At the front of the monument stands a tall statue of Henry the Navigator, followed by other notable figures from the period, arranged in a triangular pattern that represents the sails of a ship voyaging into the unknown.
Explore the Museum Inside the Complex
During your visit to the museum, you will be able to view exhibitions on the 2nd floor. The exhibitions journal the history of the Portuguese empire during its heyday, such as the ‘Vision of the Empire’, a collection of images that depict the role played by photography in the development of modern Portuguese colonialism.
