Sintra is a beautiful place to start. No matter where you go it is 100% worth seeing. If you are comfortable enough to do it, there is an amazing hike up to the palace. You will go through a forest which alone has unbelievable views and a journey you will never forget, it is wonderful. The views from the palace are immaculate, you are nearly 1,800 feet in the air and can see everything. The palace looks like it's from a Disney movie, absolutely worth seeing. This photo of the castle is on the way up to the palace, and the second photo is straight from the palace itself.

As there are not as many visitors as at other times of the year, it is possible to walk through the courtyards and paths calmly, stopping to contemplate the views without rushing. The winter atmosphere gives the palace a mysterious and romantic touch, allowing you to appreciate every architectural detail and enjoy Sintra from a more serene perspective. The gardens surrounding the palace are full of secret paths, giant ferns and trees brought from all over the world. Each step offers a different view. I have a special love for the Pena Palace in Sintra.

Beautiful surroundings and gardens of the Pena Palace, and the Palace was stunning and colorful outside. However, inside it was not that special (mostly 19th and early 20th century furniture in small dark rooms). I would recommed to just visit the park and the palace outside: you can get all the way up and right close to the palace without the ticket. Easy to buy the tickets online, clear instructions for the visit.

Loved the transport up. Loved the guide to explain what we were seeing. Palace is beautiful. Love that Palace is maintained. Visited another Palace that was in major need of a cleaning. Views go on forever.

The palace itself is breathtaking — the vibrant yellow and red facades, intricate architectural details, and panoramic terraces overlooking Sintra and the Atlantic are absolutely unforgettable. Every corner offers a new photo opportunity, but beyond the beauty, the history inside is just as fascinating. The rooms are remarkably well preserved and give you a real sense of royal life. The park surrounding the palace is just as magical. It’s lush, peaceful, and full of hidden paths, exotic trees, and stunning viewpoints. We loved wandering through the gardens — it felt romantic, serene, and adventurous all at once. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time because there is so much to explore. A few tips: arrive early to avoid crowds, wear comfortable shoes (there’s a lot of walking and hills!), and take time to simply soak it all in rather than rushing. If you’re visiting Sintra, this is an absolute must-see. It completely lives up to the hype and then some. We would go back in a heartbeat

Booking my Pena Palace & Park tickets through Headout was an absolute breeze! The entire process was seamless, from the easy online reservation to the instant digital confirmation sent straight to my email. On the day of my visit, I simply scanned the QR code at the entrance and was inside within minutes—no long lines or stressful waits, which made the whole experience so much more enjoyable. Pena Palace itself is a breathtaking masterpiece of Romantic architecture, with its vibrant colors and intricate details set against the stunning backdrop of the Sintra Mountains. Wandering through the lush park and exploring the palace’s opulent rooms felt like stepping into a fairy tale. I highly recommend using Headout for your tickets; it’s the perfect way to maximize your time and fully immerse yourself in this magical UNESCO World Heritage Site. A truly unforgettable day!

Easy to book with Headout. Payed with Apple Pay. Tickets easy to access. I was disappointed with the tuk tuk people. Very pushy. Told me I wouldn't enjoy my day after they found out I booked with a bus. Bus took us up the hill and back so no regrets using bus 434 and would recommend it. Skip past the pushy rude people selling you a tour once you get off the train and find bus 434 Also...on the guided audio tour, download the audio files while having lunch before going in. Wifi sucks in the palace and we couldn't access the audio while touring. (Canadians without phone plans on here)
