We absolutely loved our visit to the Pena Palace, the Castelo dos Mouros, and the Quinta da Regaleira. They are truly beautiful places, steeped in history, with spectacular scenery and hidden corners that are worth exploring at a leisurely pace. That said, it’s advisable to wear sturdy shoes and be in reasonably good physical shape if you plan to visit all three in a single day, as there’s quite a bit of walking involved and some steep inclines. The best time to visit is in the morning, because these are very popular sites and tend to get crowded as the day goes on. Even so, we were left wanting more. Sintra has many other houses, palaces, and castles that we weren’t able to see this time, so we’ll definitely be back to continue discovering everything this special place has to offer.

Headout's site & how we got tickets was excellent as I'm not tech savvy and all clearly explained. Re Pena Palace we got Uber to Sintra but then had to make our way to the park entrance to get on the shuttle bus to palace. Was a bit difficult how to get to the park entrance to where the shuttle bus is as didn't know if more than one entrance. In the end we got a TikTok who took us 4 there for €25.....and he was more informative & helpful so we tipped him. The Palace was busy but worth seeing but they could put more signs up to tell people where to go as we had to in the end find things out for us. After finishing we got shuttles bus back to park entrance and then another TikTok back to town as no Ubers willing to come up due to traffic.

Palácio da Pena For me, the Palácio da Pena is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re in a fairy tale. The exterior is spectacular and the views are incredible, but the crowds can take away some of its charm. It’s worth seeing at least once for the unique atmosphere and for the photos. Quinta da Regaleira I found Quinta da Regaleira to be more special. It doesn’t impress with its grandeur, but with its mystery. The tunnels, gardens, and the Initiation Well give you the feeling that you’re uncovering a hidden secret. It’s one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. If I had to choose just one, I’d go back to Regaleira. Pena impressed me, but Regaleira enchanted me.

Lovely hotel, everything was spotless, friendly staff, 24/7 front desk, excellent housekeeping, delicious breakfast, within walking distance of many restaurants, the metro, the Tagus River, and a tuk-tuk right outside the door. Big plus: we were able to store our luggage in a locker after we checked out. Minor downside: if you want a cappuccino after leaving the breakfast room, it costs €4 per person, and the Olive restaurant was closed for dinner during our stay.

Worth the money. These two locations are worth all the walk. The gardens/grounds are just as amazing as the inside of the palaces. The well was very cool when you think about the secret society element. Give your self plenty of time to see each, took us about 2.5 at penna palace and the same at Regaledia. If your walking it does take about 45mins to walk down too without stops so factor that in before setting up times

We enjoyed the Pena Palace. We got there at 9:30 am and there were already a lot of people there. We loved the Wall Walk and the beautiful ceilings and rooms. The gardens are beautiful and we walked up to the cross which provides a beautiful view to the ocean. The Quinta Da Regaleira had beautiful gardens, paths, the initiation well, a tower you can climb up and you can tour the palace as well.

We purchased the Pena Palace & Park Essentials ticket which was supposed to include a shuttle transfer from the entrance to the park to the castle itself. When we arrived at the gate our entrance tickets scanned fine, but we were turned away from the shuttle bus. We never received our shuttle tickets, and the entrance tickets we did get did not say shuttle on them. Ended up having to walk up to the castle with my parents who are not the most mobile. We contact headout via email to try and rectify and after explaining the situation and what had transpired with the staff at Pena they did give a partial refund. So all in all we were happy with the customer service we eventually got from headout, but were concerned that the tickets we had purchased were not what we received in the first place.

Signage for the Pena Palace, the park, and the other attractions is poor. This is particularly true of the signage in the town of Sintra and within the park. If you park at the recommended Portello parking lot, you won’t find any signs indicating where the buses to the entrance gates depart from. This is, after all, the parking lot that was set up to keep cars out of town. In the park, there are maps showing the paths, but they rarely indicate where you are. The small side paths leading to the park’s actual points of interest are not marked. You have to try everything without knowing where you’ll end up. The audio guide is useless if, like me, you don’t have headphones for your smartphone. I’ll never have any either. Annoying.
