Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea is back at the Bridge Theatre this autumn. Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln star in Simon Stone’s rare, gripping revival.

    • With The Lady from the Sea, Ibsen returns to London, with Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln leading, ideal for fans of literary theatre and star-driven casts.

    • Alicia Vikander, an Oscar-winner (The Danish Girl), makes her first London stage debut, and Andrew Lincoln returns to the stage after his starring role in The Walking Dead as Rick Grimes.

    • It’s Ibsen, but not as you know him—Stone strips the play down to its emotional core, with critics calling it “a starry play with an interesting director” (TimeOut London).

    • Simon Stone (Yerma, Phaedra) directs and adapts this thrilling reimagining of Ibsen’s rarely staged drama. Book your The Lady from the Sea tickets for a psychological tug-of-war drama.

    • Playing for just 9 weeks at the Bridge Theatre, this production is perfect for Ibsen fans, modern drama lovers, and lovers of emotionally gripping shows.

    The story

Ellida, played by Alicia Vikander, lives a comfortable but restless life married to Edward (Andrew Lincoln), a prosperous doctor. Their coastal setting feels secure… but unliving. When a former lover shows up, Ellida must confront her longing for freedom and the life she left behind. As memory and desire collide, choice becomes urgent—and the sea waits with its answer.

A transcendental experience. A tumultuous play that allows you to witness the intricacies of a family, the generational differences, suicide, losing yourself and making decisions in order to rediscover yourself even though that means leaving the place you have known all your life and taking a complete new path, leaving everything behind for healing. A beautiful play

I went with a few friends and we absolutely loved the show! The only downsides were the lack of toilets with very long queues and not much food available at the bar. Since the show ended quite late and most restaurants were closed, we had to go home hungry. Other than that, everything else, the show, the stage, and the actors , was fantastic!

A spellbinding production — the acting was masterful, every emotion palpable, and the stage design absolutely amazing. A triumph of performance and artistry from start to finish.

The acting and the adaptation of the play were both excellent. Sadness with humour. Brilliant!
