The story
Set in America’s South during the nineteenth century, Midnight tells the story of Rail, played by Todrick Hall, who falls for Lily Rose, a young Black woman, while serving under his owner, Scarlet, who herself becomes drawn to Richard, a wealthy neighbour. As Rail is chosen to work alongside Richard and his brother, an unexpected bond between the men emerges, and when Rail suffers a brutal attack, the characters must confront harsh divisions of race, class and convention. Will empathy win out?
