Why Watch Kyoto
Why Watch Kyoto
Take a seat at the negotiating table, inside an erratic political thriller that dramatizes the events of the 1997 COP3 conference. Some of the industry's most celebrated minds - Stephen Daldry (The Crown, Billy Elliot), Justin Martin (Stranger Things: The First Shadow), and the award-winning writers Joe Murphy & Joe Robertson (The Jungle) - unite for this delightfully surprising edge-of-the-seat drama. Watch Stephen Kunken's masterful performance as he channels the complexity of a modern-day Iago, supported by a talented cast in a game of global politics. As the walls close in and temperatures continue to rise, this startling theatrical production outlines a watershed moment in history.
The Story
December 1997, Kyoto Conference Centre. The world is holding its breath as diplomats from 160 countries push, shove, and propel for some big climate hoo-ha. Don Pearlman, a charismatic American lawyer hired by the oil lobby, is steering the agenda to protect his life’s work. But as the hours stretch past the limit and world powers clash over commas and brackets, something extraordinary starts to take shape. In the pressure cooker of international politics, one determined Argentine, Raúl Estrada-Oyuela, must navigate a maze of competing interests to achieve the impossible: a unanimous commitment to save our planet.
