Blackout Songs, White's most recent autobiographical work, depicts the many sides of the struggle to overcome drinking. An emotional connection is formed during an unexpected AA gathering. They feel an immediate attraction to one another. They start drinking again after a short break. There's a nagging suspicion that they've crossed paths before, maybe even in another life... yet that can't be the case; maybe they're only concerned with the welfare of others. Everything would improve if they could both calm down and find common ground. In fact, they will, after taking one final gulp. Addiction consumes the individual until there is nothing left except the addict.
