The booking went really well, there was no overpriced surcharge. It would have been nice if I had also received a map when I showed my ticket. I didn't see it anywhere myself, but another visitor had one. The excavation site is similar to Pompeii - only smaller and generally less grandiose. The construction and layout of the houses is similar. Easy to traverse in 3 hours. Even on your own, if you want to get a taste of the atmosphere and understand the display boards with explanations in English. If you want more information, you should book a guide.Romagnoli

Audioguide was good. As the ruins are in a pit and no breeze can be felt in there, it felt like being in a frying pan ( I was there in July). Therefore it was good to have a small area with trees and loungers to sit and rest in the shadow. There was also a water tap, but the water probably wasn't potable, so bring your own water. The area to explore is much smaller than Pompeii, so it could fit better to those who are not interested to spend a long time exploring the ruins - in comparison, Pompeii is really huge. Some very well preserved mosaics and wall paintings. Less people than in Pompeii.Steven

Herculaneum was absolutely amazing! Our tickets said that an App based audio tour was included and that we should download it before arrival, but there was no link to it in the information provided. I found an App for Herculaneum for 1.99€ but didn't know if it was genuine. When we arrived at Herculaneum the guy at the ticket office said he didn't know anything about an App but we could pay 10€ for an Audio tour. This needs to be clearer on the tickets. Several other reviews on Headout mention the same issue.Andrea
