It was all very beautiful, apart from the green area, it was wonderful, enchanting, to know his story, the beauty of his soul, what he left us. You'd have to spend two days in that place to get to know it all.Verena

Our favorite visit to Castel Sant'Angelo "**. We loved this iconic monument, which is both beautiful, well-maintained and super-convenient for visitors. Here's why we recommend it: **The big pluses:** - A **magnificent** site with a **passionate** tour - Super-practical audio-guide application** (with our own headphones) - Ticket cutting** which saved us a long wait **Conveniences that change everything :** ☕ **A nice café** with tables to sit and eat 🚻 **2 well-placed restrooms** along the tour route - super convenient! 🌇 **A breathtaking view** of Rome from the terraces **Our experience:** We spent 2 hours there, and no time went by! Between the cultural visit, the coffee break and the photos on the terraces, everything was perfect. Having accessible toilets and a place to rest really made the experience more enjoyable. *Little tip:* - Visit at the end of the day for the sunset. - Allow at least 2h30 to fully enjoy the site. - Don't hesitate to use the audio-guide (really well done) A must-see in Rome, perfectly laid out for visitors. We loved it! ★★★★★Maria

It is an imposing castle. It is a museum but you can feel what it was like to live there. The atmosphere takes you back to the difficult and special era when it was at its peak. The view from the terrace is panoramic. Some will simply admire it. Others will think about ancient Rome up to our days, and the suffering of ordinary people.Célio

The visit to the Castle is incredible and learning about its history is fascinating. We went in the late afternoon and stayed until the end to see the sunset and Rome lit up at night.
Visit the museum at your chosen time slot and explore Rome’s imperial and papal history at a relaxed pace. Make the most of your visit by saving 1-2 hours of exploration time by skipping the ticket queues.
Getting started
To start your visit, go to the main entrance at Lungotevere Castello 50 and show your ticket at the main ticket office. Once you're checked in, you can enter and begin exploring.
What to expect
Your visit begins at the spiral ramp, one of the defensive architectural features of the museum that helps access the burial chambers. These rooms, also called the Chamber of Ashes, once had urns of the remains of Roman emperors such as Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius.
Papal residences
Walk through the fortified corridors to reach the papal apartments. These rooms are decorated with frescoes and stucco. The Sala Paolina stands out with detailed paintings by Girolamo Siciolante da Sermoneta, showing Emperor Hadrian as the founder of the mausoleum. In the Angel Courtyard (Cortile dell’Angelo), you’ll find the original marble statue of Archangel Michael by Raffaello da Montelupo.
Prisons
The fortress became a prison in the 6th century. It held well-known figures like Benvenuto Cellini and Giordano Bruno. You can access the Parlatoio, a rectangular room used to torture prisoners through the Court of Alexander VI.
Terrace and Archangel Michael Statue
Reaching the rooftop you can enjoy a panoramic view of Rome and take a look at the bronze statue of Archangel Michael by Peter Anton von Verschaffelt placed in 1752.
Military defense
The outer terrace and the ramparts represent the military history and role of the museum as a defensive fortress. You can take a look at the five bastions that were added to the museum during the Renaissance.
