In a terrifying incident on December 8, 2014, a 45-year-old man was rescued from a lion enclosure at Barcelona Zoo after being seriously mauled by three lions. Witnesses reported seeing him jump into the enclosure, resulting in injuries from bites and scratches. Fortunately, he was rescued and eventually recovered.

Barcelona Zoo made headlines in December 2020 when four of its lions tested positive for COVID-19, marking one of the few instances of large felines contracting the virus. The zoo's staff, familiar with the animals' routines, conducted PCR tests on them, and provided veterinary care akin to treating a mild flu. The lions responded well to the treatment and close monitoring.

🐠🌊 A wonderful experience at Barcelona Aquarium! 💙 We discovered a fascinating underwater world full of colour, beauty and life, with something new and impressive around every corner. We admired exotic fish, sharks, graceful jellyfish and many other amazing marine creatures, each with its own unique charm. One of the most spectacular highlights was walking through the underwater tunnel, where sharks and fish swam above us, making us feel as though we were right in the heart of the ocean. 🦈✨ We were amazed by the incredible diversity of marine life and the beauty of this peaceful underwater world, which reminds us how precious and wonderful nature truly is. It was an unforgettable experience that filled us with joy, curiosity and beautiful memories during our trip to Barcelona. Casa Batlló was truly beautiful to look at, and the history was explained well through the audio guide. We were given enough time to take everything in at a relaxed pace. Park Güell was gorgeous along with its history, and Gaudí's visions were brought to light nicely through the audio guide.

We visited the zoo on a beautifully sunny day and we saw a great variety of animals around the park - some of which we had never seen before, like the Komodo Dragon! The enclosures were well thought out, more notibly the African Safari. We would recommend visiting earlier in the day if possible as many of the animals seemed to be more sleepy later on in the day! There is also a lovely park nearby to the zoo which is full of ducks, birds, and scenic views, and with a lake you can row a boat around!

Great guide, Marc, very knowledgeable and approachable. Group was 25 so a good size. The basillica is just extraordinary! Pictures dont do it justice, you have to see it. Absolutely incredible! I will ask though to please update the meeting point, the restaurant we were given to meet outside doesn't exist anymore, luckily a guide from the company was waiting for us.
