With winter drawing in, Amsterdam is decking up for its 11th edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival. The theme is Imagine Beyond. Venture on a journey to the world of imagination where your fantasy runs wild. There is no better way to experience this special treat than by a boat tour. After all, the city's canals are beautiful on ordinary days, but when enhanced with light art, they are nothing short of magical. What's more, the festival's goal is to light up the dark winter months artistically so you're bound to let go of the winter blues for a while.
The festival will run from 1 December 2022 to 22 January 2023. By public demand, the light artworks displayed this time includes a curated collection of popular artworks from the previous ten editions. Some of these include Light a Wish (lit-up and enlarged dandelion fluff), Ghost Ship (the 17th-century ghost ship Flying Dutchman as a light projection on 'screens' of water), and Moonburn (a huge balloon with glowing paint).
When booking this experience, choose between two departure points located in the city center. The boat is designed for maximum comfort and the route will take you through all the artworks in the canals and on the quay. As you gently float along the river, listen to an audio guide (available in English and Dutch) that narrates the story behind each installation.
