Warwick Castle is definitely a must-see! Originally commissioned in 1068 by William the Conqueror (and actually founded by a woman, Æthelflæd!), this castle exudes history at every turn. The castle is superbly maintained and furnished. The rooms are beautifully preserved and complemented by detailed replicas and lifelike wax figures of former residents and guests. An extra fun detail for Dutch visitors: there’s even a beautiful tapestry from Delft hanging on the wall! There’s a super-interesting short film in the Time Tower that brings the entire history to life. For those who enjoy a physical challenge, climbing Guy’s Tower and the castle walls is an absolute must. With a steep, narrow spiral staircase and a total of about 540 steps (up and down), it’s quite a workout… especially on a hot summer day! But at your own pace, with enough perseverance, reaching the top is a huge victory (and the defibrillator at the top is certainly a comforting thought!). Good to know: From Warwick Central Station, it’s a pleasant walk to the castle. The castle is a completely different (and perhaps even more beautiful) experience if you visit it in the summer rather than during the rainy winter. On hot days, don’t forget to bring plenty of bottled water (the local tap water has a bit of a chlorine taste, so bottled water is definitely worth it)! In short: a fantastic and versatile castle where you can easily spend a whole day having fun! 🛡️✨

It would have been beneficial to have seats at the war of the roses jousting display as a member of our group has back issues and can't stand for long periods of time
