What’s not allowed

Eurostar and others: You cannot use this pass on Eurostar, DLR, trams, privately owned or steam railways.

Local transport: You cannot use this pass on London Underground trains, buses, boats, or hovercraft.

Road links: You cannot use this pass for road links between airports and railway stations.

Non-National Rail: You cannot use this pass on any services that are not run by National Rail.

Seat reservations: Seat reservation fees and night train reservation fees are not included in the pass."

Additional information

Eligibility: This pass is available only for non-UK residents.

Residency proof: You must prove at least 6 months of residency with a passport, visa, or residence card.

Details at checkout: You must enter accurate residency and passport details at checkout as printed on the pass.

Multiple residencies: If you lived 6+ months in a country different from your passport, you may choose either country and show proof.

Voucher validity: Your electronic voucher is valid for 334 days from booking and expires at 23:59 on the last day.

Refund after activation: You cannot change or refund the pass once it has been activated or redeemed.

Refund before activation: You can receive an 85% refund if you cancel before redeeming the voucher.

Lost tickets: Lost, stolen, or damaged tickets cannot be refunded.

Child policy: One child aged 5–15 travels free with each adult or senior when you select a free child ticket at checkout.

Extra children: Additional children aged 5–15 receive a 50% discount on their ticket.

Infants: Children aged 0–4 travel free.

Mobile voucher: An electronic voucher is emailed to you within 24 hours of booking confirmation.

M-Pass delivery: After activation you receive your M-Pass by email and can download it to your phone.

Pass activation: You must activate your pass before boarding any train.

Choosing travel dates: You should activate only when you are sure of your travel dates by using the activation links in your voucher.

Travel day validity: Your BritRail Pass is valid from 00:00 to 24:00 on each chosen travel day.

Overnight trains: If you use a sleeper train, you must also enter the next day as a travel date.

Service interruptions: If no trains run on validated pass days, your pass is extended by the number of such days.

Airport trains: You can use a validated BritRail Pass on Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stansted Express trains.

Reservation rules: Reservations are usually optional in Great Britain, except on night trains.

Reservation fees: Any reservations that you choose to make will incur extra fees.

Where to reserve: You can reserve seats on train carrier websites or at any National Rail ticket office.

Using your M-Pass: On travel days, you must present your M-Pass at barcode barriers or show it to rail staff.

Luggage allowance: You may carry two large items and one small hand item free of charge, subject to space.

Excess luggage: Extra or bulky luggage may be accepted only if there is space and may incur charges.

Class availability: Many local trains only offer Second Class, and First Class pricing already accounts for this.
