Everything , is very interesting, the views it offers from the terrace are beautiful !!!! It took us the time it is said 2 hours of tour. The frescoes on the walls each tell a story. I recommend itMichael

What I liked most about the castle is that the tour was very clear and easy. To improve, the audio guide could have some historical facts in several languages to reinforce the audio guide.Peter

No delay at the entrance with our prebooked ticket. Castel Sant' Angelo is not as glamorous as many of the other big tourist attractions but it has a fascinating history. The visit took in a museum with several models and paintings of how the site looked in different periods. There are great panoramic views of Rome from the higher levels.Lisa

This was a great tour. Didn't get chance to see it last time we visited Rome so was top of my list this time. The download guide was useful but we found it hard to know where to go at times as there were different numbers about for different tours but we managed to make our own way round. Low point was the cafe/bar. We wanted a drink... waited but no one came to us so we went inside and she told us to go outside and wait for the waiter. We gave up in the end which made us leave earlier than we wanted to find somewhere to have a drink. So advice is 'take water!'George

Walked right in with entry pass. The views from the castle were impressive and got to see great art without the huge crowds in Vatican museums.
Visit the museum at your chosen time slot and explore Rome’s imperial and papal history at a relaxed pace. Make the most of your visit by saving 1-2 hours of exploration time by skipping the ticket queues.
Getting started
To start your visit, go to the main entrance at Lungotevere Castello 50 and show your ticket at the main ticket office. Once you're checked in, you can enter and begin exploring.
What to expect
Your visit begins at the spiral ramp, one of the defensive architectural features of the museum that helps access the burial chambers. These rooms, also called the Chamber of Ashes, once had urns of the remains of Roman emperors such as Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius.
Papal residences
Walk through the fortified corridors to reach the papal apartments. These rooms are decorated with frescoes and stucco. The Sala Paolina stands out with detailed paintings by Girolamo Siciolante da Sermoneta, showing Emperor Hadrian as the founder of the mausoleum. In the Angel Courtyard (Cortile dell’Angelo), you’ll find the original marble statue of Archangel Michael by Raffaello da Montelupo.
Prisons
The fortress became a prison in the 6th century. It held well-known figures like Benvenuto Cellini and Giordano Bruno. You can access the Parlatoio, a rectangular room used to torture prisoners through the Court of Alexander VI.
Terrace and Archangel Michael Statue
Reaching the rooftop you can enjoy a panoramic view of Rome and take a look at the bronze statue of Archangel Michael by Peter Anton von Verschaffelt placed in 1752.
Military defense
The outer terrace and the ramparts represent the military history and role of the museum as a defensive fortress. You can take a look at the five bastions that were added to the museum during the Renaissance.
