Entry was fine, once I had established where I needed to pick up the entry tickets. The process was easy and timely - a 12 pm tour set off on the dot of 12. The Belgian guys English was super and he was a good story teller. A little disappointed that the skeletons had been removed and there wasn't the art work as memorable as the one in Paris. Mainly it was empty graves.

Booking with headout on line was quick, simple and amazingly cheap compared to other sites. Communication was clear and informative ensuring we got the best experience possible. The cappuccin bones crypts that we visited in Rome was a real highlight of our trip and somewhere the whole family enjoyed and would recommend if you want to avoid the mass crowds of the colossus and Vatican. Thankyou headout

A really interesting visit, which I highly recommend. The audio guide is very well done and enjoyable. The visit takes about an hour and, in addition to the crypt, there are many interesting things to see in the area leading up to the entrance to the crypt itself. All in all, it was a wonderful experience.

The Capucin Monk Crypts was a unique experience. It was great that the tickets to a fairly obscure tourist destination were on offer. The booking system is great. I have used it a few times now, without issue.

The museum portion of the site was very inspiring and enlightening. It went over the history of Capichins and their humanitarian work and provided extremely important context to what (and who) you will see in the crypt, so I recommend taking your time and not rushing through. The museum provides headsets and recorders for the audio guide and it makes the experience much more immersive. It's also much larger and fuller than expected, so I'd make sure to slot out a least an hour to look around, but you could likely spend an hour and a half or two hours here. The crypt portion is genuinely a work of art. I recommend highly for lovers of cultural anthropology, anatomy, history, or the macabre respectively.

It was super cool, but too many people were let in at once and the opening hours were very difficult to figure out with a break half though the day

A very unique and somewhat unsettling experience. The Capuchins believed so strongly in the Resurrection that they created this artwork out of bones.
  • These tickets are valid until 31 Dec, 2026.

  • Enter one of Rome’s most hauntingly beautiful sites, the Capuchin Crypt and Museum, where faith meets artistry. Wander through six bone-adorned chapels, each uniquely designed to remind visitors of life’s fragility and the Capuchin friars’ devotion to humility and resurrection.

    Getting started

Find the Capuchin Crypt inside the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini on Via Veneto, just steps from Piazza Barberini. Present your digital or printed voucher at the entrance.

    What to expect

    Capuchin Crypt and Museum

Famous for its macabre beauty, the crypt displays the remains of nearly 4,000 Capuchin friars, artfully arranged into floral and geometric motifs.

    Features

    • Crypt of the Three Skeletons: A striking chapel featuring three young skeletons symbolizing life’s fragility and divine judgment — a haunting tribute to the Barberini family’s legacy.

    • Crypt of the Tibias and Femurs: Walls and vaults adorned with skulls, bones, and Capuchin statues like Brother Anthony of Canton, forming crosses and floral symbols of faith and sacrifice.

    • Crypt of the Basins: Arched recesses cradle Capuchin remains beneath rosette-filled vaults made from vertebrae and scapulae, representing the Passion of Christ.

    • Crypt of the Skulls: Decorated with bone chandeliers and a winged hourglass — a chilling yet poetic reminder of time’s fleeting nature.

    • Chapel for the Mass: A serene altar space featuring Jan François Courtois’ Mary with Child, flanked by marble tabernacles and relics of revered souls.

    • Crypt of the Resurrection: Bone rosettes and ribbed arches frame a canvas of The Resurrection of Lazarus, a symbol of eternal hope and salvation.
