Although Project Night Watch kept me from the painting I really came to see, I had a wonderful afternoon revisiting and learning from some of the masters. I wasn't really prepared for how struck I was by Whistler's arrangement in grey and yellow. Nor did I expect such a rush of joy as I got in front of Vermeers and Rembrandts. The acoustics in the central halls and stairways is atrociously horrible, but once I had a quiet moment in the magical library I was over it.

So glad we decided to go Rijks museum rather than Van Gogh (which I am sure is good, but didn't have time to do everything). We were able to see Van Gogh and Rembrandt and many, many other of the masters at the Rijks. And the food at the cafe there is delicious!! We were there for over 3 hours and skipped a lot! It is a beautiful place filled with beautiful pieces of history. The canal cruise was also very nice. Was guided cruise that showed many things we would have missed otherwise.
