The best time to visit the castle is in the morning. The first tour starts at 10:00 a.m. during the off-season. Of the 50 rooms, only 15 are open to the public; the rest are used for administrative purposes. The tour is conducted using audio guides, but the tours are very tightly scheduled at 10-minute intervals, so you hardly have time to take a closer look at the details before the next group comes in. The groups are about 30 people big, and there's always a guide with each group. You have to order the audio guides online in the language you want. But it's no problem to switch to another language once you're there.

The Castle is beautiful but we were not treated well by the staff. The security were rude and because we took the last tour, at 4pm, the staff of the Store were kicking us out... and we were buying souvenirs, spending money at the Store! So rude! We went down walking with 2 kids and no security at all during the way. The castle is worth the visit but we didnt like the treatment we received at all!

Our guide Amir was excellent!! He regaled us with stories and details about Ludwig, the construction of the castle and the family's history that we would have been hard pressed to learn on our own. Amir was thoughtful and observant to the needs of our group as we walked up to the castle. I highly recommend using Headout and Amir for your tour of the Neuschwanstein castle!

The castle's area was very scenic and worth coming to but the tour itself was rushed and very short. But I was more upset to find out that there was a real castle with rich actual history not even a kilometer away for a 1/4 of the price of this one
