If you are a design or architecture enthusiast, a visit to the Negozio Olivetti – Olivetti Showroom in Piazza San Marco is a must. Get this entry ticket to a “time capsule” – an important sample of contemporary architecture in Venice. The space, commissioned by an illuminated industrialist Adriano Olivetti to Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa, was designed and constructed in 1958-59. It is a unique example of the existing and maintained Olivetti showroom, a breakthrough innovative idea of the usage of the space.

Carlo Scarpa completely changed this humble and irregular location under the Colonnades of the historical Procuratie Vecchie to the place of excellent contemporary architecture. The style is completely site-specific, bringing together originality of Olivetti brand and Scarpa’s adored Japanese aesthetic, using as well traditional Venetian materials or techniques. The space is very small, though Scarpa’s carefully designed elements that seem to “float” expand its dimensions.

What’s not allowed

Dogs are not allowed in the FAI Negozio Olivetti Showroom.

There is no wheelchair accessibility or bathroom for visitors.
