The story is terribly stereotypical, the dialogues are simple, and there is essentially no plot, just dialogues of varying intensity. What made up for this was the acting. Sarandon has a strong stage presence, and the cast is excellent. What's more, it was my first time at the Old Vic.

The theatre is wonderful, I had a special experience sitting around the entire stage. I was thrilled by the performance, the actors were all fantastic. The details from the main character's life are beautifully intertwined. As the lady next to me said, "brilliant"!

Wonderful cast (including Susan Sarandon and Andrea Riseborough), terrific immersive production "in the round" and a touching story about how small moments can define a life. We had great seats where the stage would normally be.
    • Susan Sarandon takes the London stage for the first time in Mary Page Marlowe, joined by Andrea Riseborough, making a highly anticipated theatre return after 15 years.
    • Tracy Letts, Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony Award winner, makes his UK debut with this emotionally powerful, time-jumping play about one woman’s life over 70 years.
    • Residency Director Matthew Warchus transforms The Old Vic into a fully immersive-in-the-round space, inviting audiences into Mary’s world during his final season.
    • Told across 11 non-linear scenes with five different actresses portraying Mary, this Steppenwolf-to-Off‑Broadway hit earned praise as “smartly constructed and ultimately quite moving” by Time Out.

    The story

Mary Page Marlowe follows the life of an Ohio accountant whose ordinary life hides unexpected depth and complexity. Told through a time-jumping narrative with 11 non-linear scenes, and five different actresses portraying Mary at various stages of life, the play captures defining moments from youthful dreams and difficult marriages to a secret affair, a DUI, and a brief time in prison.

Tracy Letts crafts a deeply intimate portrait of memory, identity, and the consequences of our choices. But in the end, who is Mary Page Marlowe?
