Why watch Cirque du Soleil: Luzia
Representing the culture and vogue of Mexico, Luzia is a dreamlike recital by Cirque Du Soleil. The world of Luzia uses water as a source of performing art in a manner never-seen-before. The artists elegantly perform and showcase tales from Mexican folklore. With their expertise in acrobalance, the artists perform dauntless acts on stage as well as in the air. The cast of Luzia comprises of 44 artists who hail from 15 countries and are experts in various forms of acrobatic art. The choreography, circus artistry and the backdrop of the stage are fine-tuned to make Luzia an unforgettable show. Blended with many faces, surreal animals and traditional circus discipline from China, this show is a marvel to watch.
The Story
Luzia is a representation of life and its cycles in a figurative way. The story begins when a parachutist lands in a field of yellow marigold flowers. He stumbles upon a giant metallic key, curiously turns it and gets taken away on a magical journey through time and space. Throughout the act, the traveller meets a dozen characters who amuse him with their skills. A beach clown passing by tricks the traveller into drinking water out of his empty container. A Tarzan-styled man performs in aerial straps, an elastic and acrobatic rope, symbolizing the coexistence of man and animal. The performance ends with a Fiesta Finale when all the characters the traveller met in his journey gather together for a celebration. Watch this series of grand visual and witness the culture and glory of Mexico as Cirque Du Soleil brings the stage to life.
Critics Reviews
“This outing is a bracing reminder that when the company is at the top of its game — and “Luzia” is very much peak Cirque — you understand how it has so successfully straddled art and business all these years”
– The New York Times
““Luzia” asks its audience to make these massive leaps to grasp order out if its scattered sequences of injury-defying feats. At any moment, it seems content to throw up its hands and simply say, “Because Mexico.”
