    • Be captivated by the award-winning musical A Strange Loop as it travels from Broadway to the West End.

    • This witty and timely show delves into themes of identity, race, and sexuality, resonating with artists and individuals who have ever felt like they didn't quite fit in.

    • With its catchy beats, clever lyrics, and unforgettable score, A Strange Loop is a queer and lively celebration of one man's journey towards self-discovery and acceptance.

    The Story

Usher, a dissatisfied black queer, dreams of becoming a musical theater writer. His autobiographical musical centers around a black queer male writer writing about a black queer male writer. But with limited opportunities and self-doubt, Usher's internal monologues become the backbone of the all-black, all-queer ensemble's songs. Usher struggles with identity, family, and sexuality. Experience his journey firsthand by booking A Strange Loop tickets.

    What the critics think

"Michael R Jackson’s Pulitzer-winning play is a strikingly original, highly entertaining tour of identity politics and the struggles of selfhood."

    ★★★★★

    Arifa Akbar, The Guardian

"...it’s stuffed with really catchy tunes full of triumphant melodies, with big high notes, snatches of literary and musical reference constantly winking at us. It’s messy and exhausting as much as it is spectacular."

    ★★★★★

    Tim Bano, Evening Standard

    Headout's take

"A Strange Loop, a groundbreaking musical by Michael R. Jackson, at the Barbican theatre , is a tour de force that defies traditions, contests societal norms, and leaves viewers contemplating the very nature of identity, self-worth, and artistic expression."

The production is so unique in terms of music and staging. Usher is a wonderful character, completely engaging. The songs & dialogue tell the story so well. For the feint of heart, know that their is a lot of cursing, F bomb, C bomb, N Bomb and more, not even causeing an eyelash flutter. We join in hoping that Usher, our hero, finds himself and learns that he is a wonder. We benefit from the supporting actors who play his inner feelings.
