I had heard good things about Hadestown but didn't expect this fabulous experience. Right from the get go, powerhouse vocals and acting performances are enough to knock your socks off. On top of which, the retelling of beloved myths through the lens of a dystopian society, specially reflecting problems like the class divide and global warming... I'm truly overwhelmed. Every single performer was unique and memorable in their own way. My only advice- wear tear-proof mascara!

Hadestown was my first West End show and it was an amazing experience. The actors are simply incredible, charismatic and talented. The whole audience was completely entranced by the story, everyone was holding their breath at the end (if you know the story, you know what scene I'm talking about). My friends and I waited a bit after the show and even managed to get some autographs from the actors. Overall great experience!

The performance was really made astonishing by the use of light to illuminate certain characters in the play, creating dynamic shots between characters which helped to really set the emotional atmosphere. Furthermore, the lighting helped accentuate the impact of certain scenes making it a poignant and powerful tool for highlighting the importance of particular events.

The rollercoaster Underworld saga, set in the world of Greek mythology, is returning to London after it first played at the National Theatre in 2018. After opening to rave reviews and critical acclaim, Anaïs Mitchell and Rachel Chavkin’s Hadestown was nominated for 14 Tony Awards in 2019, a record-breaking number, and won 8 of them. It also holds a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. So, there is no doubt that Hadestown in London is going to be a phenomenal experience. Get your tickets for Hadestown before they run out. The Underworld has never looked better.

The story

A story about the trials and tribulations of love, Hadestown focuses on two couples — the poverty-ridden Orpheus and Eurydice and the King of the Underworld, Hades and his wife, Persephone. When Persephone is miserable about returning to the Underworld after she visits the world above, Hades heads out to search for someone who will appreciate the offerings of his home. He finds Eurydice and convinces her to move to the Underworld in exchange for food and protection. Eurydice agrees and becomes a worker at Hadestown, the dark underground factory of Hades. When Orpheus finds out, he vows to save Eurydice. What follows is a heartbreaking tale of sacrifice, triumph and the mysterious machinations of fate.

The atmosphere was amazing,the characterization was something out of this world. Being able to see it live was a dream come true, the live music was making me emotional. I would go again 100 times, these types of musicals its what keeps this industry alive.

I love the show, I've seen it on Broadway now on West End. The cast was amazing. What made it lose a star is the tech support guy handling the spotlight installed on the upper right corner of the balcony who was talking quite loudly and laughing mainly during the second half of the show which was at times quite disturbing (especially during quieter passages). This was such a shame, because my friends who saw it for the first time said they got distracted from following the show due to this man.
