I booked my tickets online and the staff were very helpful at the first bus stop and from details on my phone they printed me tickets and explained I should use the paper version each time I got on the bus

Wir hatten ein Tagesticket gebucht 08:30-18:30. Vollkomen ausreichend. Wir setzten uns gleich bei der ersten Tour hinein bei Station 1. Sehr angenehm und nicht voll. Ab der zweiten Runde war es dann sehr voll und heiß. Die Busse standen meistens noch 15min länger.

The 24/48/72-hour passes are valid from the moment they are validated and can be used for the entire duration of the ticket.
