I visited Pompeii and Herculaneum as part of a tour and delayed my return flight to give me a day in Naples. Prior to the holiday, I bought from Headout a retun bus ticket from the airport and a timed entrance to the Naples Archeological Museum. I was quite anxious but everything ran really smoothly. I arrived early at the museum thinking I would need to wait but was taken through past the queue (not lengthy but nice not to join). The museum is in a fabulous building (Sundial Hall) and the exhibits are exquisit. The cameo Farnese bowl and Blue Vase are exceptionally beautiful. The description behind the Memento Mori mosaic, is reflective and is to encourage us to live life to the full. I fully recommend a visit.

What I liked best was the mosaic room. It’s a shame I couldn’t see the mosaic of Alexander. The mosaic portrait of a woman (apparently unknown) connected me directly to the past. That direct gaze couldn’t have been made up. There must have been a model. I fell in love with the museum. I hope to return someday.

Due to an unknown issue, I hadn't received our tickets. I contacted the website, and they resolved the issue immediately. And getting into the museum was particularly easy.

Very easy access to the museum - took 2 minutes to get in and an audio guide to set us off on our visit. Great day and will need another visit in the future to see the rest of it.

Very quick admission. The audio guide was unnecessary. The signage inside the museum was inadequate. A very interesting museum with an extensive collection of artifacts found in Pompeii.

Quick and hassle-free entry. The tickets arrived right away. No lines, of course. We started our tour in the Sundial Hall on the second floor, because our priority was to see the Pompeii frescoes and the museum’s stunning mosaics. Everything was beautiful. The images will stay with us forever.

The museum is beautiful and definitely worth a visit, but unfortunately we weren’t able to get the audio guides. They were only available for a deposit of 20 euros per person. We didn’t have any cash on us, so we asked about alternatives, but the answer was a firm NO. It was either cash or no audio guides. There wasn’t even an app available to download that would let us use audio guides with our own headphones. So, we had to read the information from the signs the old-fashioned way. It wasn’t really a pleasant experience for a visit with two teenagers.
